WWE Superstar and two-time Divas champion Paige has been in troubled waters for a few weeks. There was apparently a lot of backstage heat on her due to her relation with former WWE superstar Alberto Del Rio. There were also rumours of her resigning and leaving the company after Del Rio’s departure. She has been missing from WWE programming for some time now and was serving a 30-day suspension for a Wellness Policy violation.
With her suspension coming to an end, it seems that Paige will return to her usual position on the WWE roster. The anti-diva recently denied rumours of her leaving the company on social media, and made it clear that she would return to the ring soon as an active performer.
TNA Wrestling, on the other hand, expressed keen interest in signing Paige should she become available and has no other contractual obligations with the WWE.
Dave Meltzer had earlier reported that Paige was looking for an out in her contract that would enable her to leave the company. The WWE officials realized the potential and talent that Paige has and tried to negotiate with her. It now seems that the two parties mended fences by talking things over and came to an agreement. Meltzer reported that Paige is now under contract with WWE through April 2019 – as was the case with her original contract.
With that news comes the rumours of how WWE will book Paige’s return. Paige had been drafted to Monday Night RAW and her return will definitely strengthen the ranks of the RAW women’s roster. It would be interesting to see if she goes after the Women’s Championship or gets involved in a feud with the dominant Nia Jax.
Nia Jax is set to face Alicia Fox at Clash of Champions. Alicia Fox and Paige’s friendship has been well documented throughout several episodes of Total Divas. However, the match is stacked on the pre-show and Alicia is not on the cast of Total Divas anymore. Therefore, this may not be a very good option for Paige.
The Championship picture is also very crowded right now with the trio of Charlotte, Sasha banks and Bayley in the mix for the title. Moreover, rumours have been running wild of a Dana Brooke face turn and consequent feud with Charlotte. It is in this upper echelon of female superstars that Paige may find her redemption.
A program with a heel Paige and a universally loved face, Bayley would have some exciting matches and promos. Paige can even work Sasha Banks and the two could put up some memorable matches.
Paige was the first NXT Women’s Champion and had a big role in the transition of females in WWE from Divas to women wrestlers. She has age on her side and is destined for many more championship runs in future if she can stick with the company.
