WWE signs top indie star, Rey Mysterio tweets on why he left the WWE, John Cena

WWE has recently signed indie star Athena who will be reporting to the WWE Performance Center

-She probably won't get fast tracked to a WWE name and NXT debut like Kana/Asuka, but will be joining the Japanese star & Rich Swann at the Performance Center in a few weeks. As noted, indie star Athena has signed with WWE and will be reporting to the Performance Center when she finishes up her indy dates.

Last night, Athena wrestled two matches at the WSU Excellence iPPV in Voorhees, New Jersey. She defeated Sumie Sakai in the first match and then lost to Hania in the main event. After the match, she reportedly gave what was described as a very touching farewell speech.

After years of bringing in women with no pro wrestling background, Athena is part of a wave of more experience females being signed by Triple H, along with Asuka and Billie Kay, with whom she's worked several times.

On Sunday, Mysterio took to his Twitter account commented on his WWE departure earlier this year and said that things are good between him and the company. Mysterio posted:
