WWE SmackDown: 3 Surprises from this week’s episode (May 14, 2019)

The heels reigned supreme
The heels reigned supreme

After an extremely eventful episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE tried to keep the fire burning on SmackDown Live this week right before the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

With the introduction of the wild-card rule, the creatives have found a way to keep the action concentrated on a special few superstars and those who are going to be a part of the MITB event on Sunday. This has led to many deserving superstars being left out of the action, as the same men have been taking the center stage on Mondays and Tuesdays.

With that said, the creatives still managed to do a good job to build hype around the MITB event and keep fans guessing.

On this week’s SmackDown Live, the creatives ended up making two big mistakes and sent one major surprise which could mean a lot come Sunday.

Check out the 3 shocking mistakes and surprises from this week’s episode, and share your views on the show in the comments section.

#3 Ordinary match, extraordinary superstars

Just like every other main roster show in the past couple of week’s, WWE chose its premier male superstar Roman Reigns to kick off proceedings on SmackDown Live.

After a good segment involving men like Reigns, The Miz, Elias, Shane McMahon, The Usos, and the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions, Shane decided to book a handicap match for the night.

Roman Reigns and The Usos vs. Shane McMahon, Elias, Daniel Bryan, and Rowan was set for the night, and fans expected the match to be epic considering the talent involved.

While the match itself was not surprising, it was the action that took place that was. With The Best in the World and six other Superstars involved, the match was surprisingly not as good as one would have expected it to be. There were a few high spots, but otherwise, the bout remained mediocre.

With The Usos, Daniel Bryan, and Reigns sharing a ring, one would have expected the match to be A-grade at least and give a great promo of what’s to come on Sunday.

#2 The Fatal 4-Way Match

Speaking of great talent involved in a match, the talent that participated in the fatal four-way match that took place earlier in the night was no less than superb either.

The four Superstars representing SmackDown in Sunday's Money in the Bank ladder match were in the spotlight to ensure that SmackDown leaves a mark on the event. Finn Balor, Andrade, Randy Orton, and Ali waged war in the contest.

With many high and memorable spots coming out of the match which involved three highflyers and one of the best heels WWE has ever seen, there was no complain from what happened during the match.

After Andrade scored the win, Raw’s Ricochet made a surprising appearance which made the segment fall apart. Ricochet sent the victor crashing from the top of the ladder and grabbed the MITB briefcase to send a message to his competition.

This was an extremely sloppy use of the wild-card rule, that made little sense as Ricochet had already lost his match against Baron Corbin on Raw. Instead, someone like Drew McIntyre doing the same would have left a much bigger impact and left the field open for Sunday.

#1 The Sami Owens Show

When WWE books a segment instead of a match to end the night, we all know it’s going to end up in a brawl.

With Kofi fuming after constant attacks by Owens on him and his partner Xavier Woods, he wanted to send a message as he made his way to the ring for the main event edition of the "KO Show."

After Kofi taunted The Prizefighter, Owens appeared on the screen to cut a promo before making his way to the squared circle. Naturally, a brawl broke out between the two men.

Surprisingly, Sami Zayn crossed borders from Raw to SmackDown to help his longtime friend in the beatdown. Xavier Woods attempted the save, and after a few moments, Kingston dropped Zayn with Trouble in Paradise and New Day stood tall to close out the show.

With that, WWE has sent a special message to the WWE Universe and surprised many fans at home. Will WWE book Sunday’s event in a way no one expects? We’ll have to wait to find out.
