#4 Neither man could afford to lose
Both AJ Styles and Kurt Angle have high profile matches at WrestleMania 35, don't they? So does Samoa Joe who lost to Kurt Angle on RAW, but then again WWE sees Samoa Joe and the US Championship division as being inferior to the top players I feel. To have either man take a pin during this match would have just ruined their momentum before WrestleMania.
And so, WWE booked a no contest between the two men, which seemed like the best way out of this situation, I suppose. The wisest thing to do would have been to not book the match at all. Maybe do a match between Angle and someone else, who could afford to take a loss.
