WWE SmackDown: 5 Theories about why The Miz went heel and aligned himself with John Morrison

WWE kicked off the decade with an interesting heel turn

This week on SmackDown, the decade began on a high with three major returns. Not only did John Morrison come back to align himself with The Miz, but we also saw The Usos come to the aid of Roman Reigns and of course, the electrifying return of the Irish powerhouse- Sheamus too.

And yet, perhaps the biggest headline to emerge from the show was the fact that The Miz went heel after portraying a babyface for very long. We'd seen how The Miz had embraced the good guy in him, and we grew to like the man we'd hated for ever so long, as we met his father and his lovely daughter, Monroe Sky.

So, why is The Miz a bad guy once more, you ask? I shall attempt to answer this question with 5 points that I believe should hit home.

As always, feel free to weigh in and let me know what you think about these points.

#5 Always at his best as a heel

Even though The Miz's babyface run was full of entertaining moments, especially during his feud with Shane McMahon, who can dispute the fact that The Miz is a natural, real-life heel? So many backstage stories refer to the fact that he's rubbed most of the locker room the wrong way in the past, coming from the reality TV world instead of the pro wrestling world, earning massive heat.

It is only natural that he would become a heel. As a heel, The Miz can actually cut promos and get the audience to hate him, something that he wasn't able to do as a babyface during the previous run.

A lot of people think that The Miz's best days are behind him, but I still think he has one or two awesome runs left in the tank, maybe with John Morrison.

#4 The history that's shared between Miz and Morrison

Long before John Morrison explored avenues outside of WWE, and absolutely smashed it in Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling, he and The Miz were very much a tag team unit. In fact, they remain the best of friends even to this day, despite how the careers of both men have progressed.

The first-ever title that The Miz won in WWE was the WWE Tag Team Championship with John Morrison. Thanks to the WWE Network, fans can go back in time and relive their favorite WWE moments from any point in wrestling history and I'm certain that this is not a partnership that is easily forgotten by WWE fans.

Because of the history that the two men share, it was natural to bring the two together as a unit. When you're in distress, who do you turn to but your closest friends?

#3 Everyone who faces The Fiend changes (storyline reason)

Props to my colleague Gary Cassidy for coming up with this theory. Anyone who faces The Fiend changes and goes back to an earlier gimmick.

We saw it with Finn Balor, whom you may call the first victim of The Fiend who went to NXT and became 'The Prince'. We saw it with Seth Rollins who became the heel that we'd come to hate under the rule of The Authority, who aligned himself with The Authors of Pain instead of J & J Security this time.

Daniel Bryan, whom you may call The Miz's greatest foe not only changed from someone who called the WWE Universe fickle to a Champion of the people, but he actually helped in The Miz's turn. It was after losing to Bryan that The Miz seemed to snap.

SmackDown is doing a great job of telling some wonderfully scripted stories.

#2 Possible heel challengers for The New Day

The SmackDown tag team division is very interesting at the moment. You have The New Day ruling the roost as the reigning and defending Champions. But unfortunately, there aren't enough heel teams who can potentially take the titles off them.

You have Heavy Machinery, of course, but right now, they may be even more popular than The New Day with their working-class gimmick. You have The Usos, who have been on fire ever since they came to the aid of their cousin, Roman Reigns, and I can't imagine them going heel anytime soon, quite honestly. The Revival is a heel team but we've seen far too many matches between The New Day and The Revival.

The Miz and John Morrison can actually be a decent heel team who can believably challenge Kofi Kingston and Big E for the Championships, provided that this is the route WWE goes after the Royal Rumble.

#1 Possible future challenger for Braun Strowman and the WWE Intercontinental Championship

I think that it's only a matter of time before Braun Strowman becomes the next WWE Intercontinental Champion. And when he does, bringing the reign of Shinsuke Nakamura to an unfortunate end, he will need a strong opponent for WrestleMania.

There is arguably no better opponent for the man right now than The Miz, who's made it his life's mission, quite vocally, to elevate the WWE Intercontinental Championship. This is a title that is associated with him and The Miz has always done a commendable job in making whatever program he's in very prestigious.

The Miz may not naturally be a strong opponent for Braun Strowman but one cannot dispute that with John Morrison by his side, he'll certainly be a formidable player. This may be the route that WWE wants to go with The Miz, after the tag team run.

Do you agree with my assumptions?
