WWE SmackDown, August 9, 2013: Five talking points

With two more WWE shows left for SummerSlam, a lot was anticipated of SmackDown this week. With two top class matches and a lot of storyline build up, SmackDown was good, if not great. A new match was introduced to the SummerSlam match card, making it an even more interesting PPV to look out for.

Anyway, let us now look at the top 5 talking points of the blue brand.

1. AJ & Big E vs Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn

The mostly boring Miz TV segment turned out to be a surprisingly interesting one today. The segment turned out better than what most of us expected. AJ and Ziggler spoke to the point and made the segment look good. Ziggler received a huge pop from the crowd that was very vocal. Miz, as the host of SummerSlam, added a match between the four at the PPV. By the look of things, it seems as though Ziggler will have a role to play in this match.

2. Damien Sandow unveils Sandowized MITB briefcase

After Rhodes threw Sandow’s MITB briefcase in the Gulf of Mexico, Sandow looked frustrated and angry. He wanted to get his hands on Rhodes and finally did, on RAW this week. Sandow was interviewed by Renee Young in the show, where he unveiled his new MITB briefcase. The case was brown leather, as if made out of chocolate. It looked very classy and had a regal look to it. Sandow, towards the end of the show, ran with the briefcase and tried to cash in on a knocked out Del Rio. Rhodes interrupted him, however, and hit Sandow with the Cross Rhodes.

3. Brock Lesnar’s message to Punk

Brock Lesnar had a few words to say to Punk, in a pre-recorded backstage segment. Lesnar spoke about Punk being weak and that it was only his respect for Heyman that was keeping Lesnar from killing Punk. He mocks at Punk taking MMA classes and considers himself the beast and the best.

It seems Lesnar is trying to get into Punk’s head and make him angrier than he is now. Punk looks absolutely out of control due to his anger, and Lesnar and Heyman are together planning to make use of it.

4. Bray Wyatt accepts Kane’s Ring of Fire challenge

After Kane challenged Bray Wyatt to a ring of fire match, things went a little awry for the Wyatts as they were lost for words. But Wyatt struck back this week as he appeared on the Titantron after Kane squashed 3 MB. Wyatt delivered a classy promo, claiming the ring of fire will not affect him. He ended the promo with a hysteric laugh that must have sent a chill even down Kane’s spine.

5. Christian reigns supreme

Christian showed us why he is the No.1 contender after another brilliant match with the champion himself. Del Rio and Christian looked solid inside the ring as they gave us a great match. The surprising factor was, however, Christian’s victory. Del Rio’s chances of holding the title past SummerSlam looks very bleak, and we can surely expect a new champion at the event. Ricardo did not make any appearance, which was a small let-down, but he will surely have a role to play in the title match at SummerSlam.
