WWE SmackDown - Best and worst- New faction formed, Possible mistake with Roman Reigns?

This week's edition of WWE SmackDown was an okay show
This week's edition of WWE SmackDown was an okay show

It was clear that the WWE SmackDown roster was still recovering and reeling from the passing of Pat Patterson and that is understandable for sure. This week's edition of WWE SmackDown paid respect to the legendary pro wrestler in a classy manner, but not much happened otherwise for sure.

It's clear that WWE SmackDown's think-tank, perhaps because of the involvement of Paul Heyman, puts a lot of thought when it comes to the Roman Reigns segments, but there's a lot to be said about the state of the mid-card at the moment, to be honest.

So, let's look at the best of WWE SmackDown this week, and share some thoughts about segments that could be considered 'worsts'. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below, ladies, and gentlemen.

#1 Best: The Forgotten Sons make a valiant WWE SmackDown return

What is a king without his subjects? As great as the whole King Corbin gimmick has been for the WWE SmackDown Superstar, it's been a while since it became stale, especially if you consider the fact that he's been walking around with a crown, a cape, and a scepter for no rhyme or reason since. That's not how normal human beings behave, dear reader.

And no, for a King to have two cloaked subjects is not normal behavior either, but at least it gives WWE SmackDown star King Corbin a fresh coat of paint and something new to do.

It also explains (to a degree) why The Mysterio family teamed up against King Corbin last week on WWE SmackDown. Also, Cutler and Blake are far too talented to be sitting on the sidelines and at least, this gives them something to do.

Everyone wins.

Well, maybe not Murphy.

#1 Worst: Roman Reigns uses the steel steps on Otis, but the match continues on

The central issue with the WWE creative think tank is that they sometimes do not think things through, and they imagine that their audience does not do so either. We're sure you all caught the segment where Roman Reigns destroyed Otis with the steel steps.

One would imagine that using a foreign object in such a manner would result in a disqualification, but the referee allowed the match to go on, but however, brought the match to a close when Roman Reigns used his guillotine.

The company changes the narrative based on how it suits their programming, and that's not necessarily always the best way to tell a story. The truth is that even a mistake such as this is noticed by one and all on social media, and they highlighted the same all across Twitter.

That said, this was the only thing with Roman Reigns that was sub-par. Everything else was pure gold, from the start to the end of this week's show.

#2 Best: Roman Reigns, the bully

The art of pro wrestling is making people feel emotions for real, even if they know that the action that they're witnessing on the screen is scripted. The current version of Roman Reigns is a bully, who thinks that he's above the rest of the roster, and that makes people want to see him get taken down. The opening segment where Roman Reigns bullied Kayla Braxton was a fantastic piece of work, and it incensed more than one individual on Twitter.

Fast-forward to the end of the show where Roman Reigns cracked a steel chair on the back of his own cousin, Jey Uso.

There will come a point down the line where Jey Uso turns babyface and then, he will turn on Roman Reigns and have the rematch that we've all been waiting for. One wonders if he will be the person that takes the WWE Universal Championship away from the Tribal Chief, bringing their story full-circle, and giving the fans a classic moment in sports entertainment.

#2 Worst: Why did Bayley lose clean on WWE SmackDown to Natalya?

Natalya is one of the greatest of all time, and one could even make a case for her to be in the WWE Hall of Fame at some point in the future. But, at the same time, it was really weird to see her defeat Bayley clean on this week's edition of WWE SmackDown with a sharpshooter in the middle of the ring. Especially if you consider how prominently Bayley has been featured in the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship picture.

Remember how many times Natalya lost before she got into the WWE SmackDown Women's Survivor Series Team?

One wonders if Bayley has lost favor with the office or if Natalya is being primed for a massive push, in the days to come, to build her up as a credible opponent for Sasha Banks and the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship in due course of time.

These are the only two explanations for what played out on WWE SmackDown this week because no other reasoning makes sense, at this particular point in time.

#3 Best/Worst: Everything with Sasha Banks and Carmella for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship

Everyone has an opinion, to be fair, and this reviewer felt that Sasha Banks and Carmella's interaction on WWE SmackDown did not really hit home. The things that were said were somehow not very effective and did nothing really, to get the audience invested in their feud over the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship.

That does not mean that this feud has been a dud because that is certainly not the case. And judging from reactions online, half the audience loved the verbal back-and-forth between Banks and Carmella, while the other half did not really care for it.
