WWE SmackDown Live Preview: 13 September, 2016

SmackDown has a new champion

WWE produced one of the best pay-per-views in recent history this past Sunday through Backlash. With the right amount of surprises and solid matches resulted in a great show. Now, the SmackDown team will be responsible for carrying forward the momentum through their weekly show. After what happened at Backlash, there are some interesting things that WWE could come up with at the latest episode of SmackDown.

With the next pay-per-view belonging to Raw, WWE has plenty of time to build for SmackDown’s next event and here are the things that you should watch out for in this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.

1- The Underdog champions

The Underdog champions

Heath Slater and Rhyno did the unthinkable last night when they won the SmackDown Tag Team championship. They were clearly the underdogs against The Usos and the win turned out to be a surprise for many fans. However, now that they are the reigning champions, a celebration is bound to happen.

We are well aware of the entertainment quotient that Slater and Rhyno bring to the table. The Usos will be looking to get one back at the new champions while Chad Gable and Jason Jordan are expected to make a return as well. In short, we can expect a chaotic situation in the tag team division.

2- Celebration time for Becky

New face of the division

SmackDown got its first Women’s champion when Becky Lynch won the Six-pack challenge at Backlash. She overcame five other women to get the job done and it was a deserving moment for her as well. Now that she is on the top, the upcoming weeks will be about cementing her spot there. WWE will need to find a new challenger for Becky and from the looks of it, Nikki Bella and Carmella might not be involved in the race.

Nikki and Carmella look set to have their own feud after Backlash and as both these women are controversial, it will be a talked about storyline.

3- What next for Kane?

Kane got a huge win at Backlash

One of the biggest winners of Backlash was Kane. Kane was not even on the card of the pay-per-view until the last minute and then he got a huge win over Bray Wyatt. Even though it came with the help of Randy Orton, Kane’s win stands as a win itself in the history books. Before Backlash, Kane was getting some momentum built up and now after his huge win against Bray, Kane needs something good going forward.

Baron Corbin could be a great opponent for the Big Red Monster next as Corbin will also be looking for a feud after his impressive showing at Backlash.

4- Orton – Wyatt Situation

Wyatt or Lesnar?

The Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt match was called off at the last moment. Orton’s physical condition was the reason for the same as he was still suffering from the problems that he picked up at SummerSlam against Brock Lesnar. As we saw earlier, Orton has a rematch coming up with Brock Lesnar in the near future and at the same time; he has a score to settle with Bray Wyatt as well.

As Lesnar match takes place during a live event and since Lesnar is on Raw, WWE is likely to push the Bray feud further rather than giving any attention to the Lesnar rematch.

5- Lunatic wants his title back

The face that runs the place

It was a heart-warming experience when AJ Styles got hold of the WWE Championship at Backlash. After doing everything in the wrestling business, this was the only thing that Styles wanted and he got it on Sunday Night. The title win, however, came via a controversial fashion. WWE has left the storyline wide open for new additional chapters.

WWE will be looking into the same this week on SmackDown. The initial buildup to the match was a bit lukewarm but after what happened at Backlash, Ambrose and AJ Styles are going to hit the throttle and give us something worth remembering. While this is a predictable path to take, WWE introducing someone else into the title picture will shake things up.
