What’s the story?

Kurt Angle returned to the ring last night for the first time since WWE Tables Ladders and Chairs. The former Monday Night Raw General Manager attacked Baron Corbin at the Live Event in San Antonio.

In case you didn’t know…

Angle made his in-ring return at Wrestlemania last year, teaming up with Ronda Rousey in a mixed tag team match. They took on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon and won after the former UFC champion locked the Chief Branding Officer of WWE in an armbar and made her tap out.

Kurt Angle has since been on and off the WWE screen and was sent on "vacation" as well with Baron Corbin taking over as the acting GM of RAW. The 4-time WWE Champion returned to eliminate Corbin in a Battle Royale on RAW and made it to the WWE World Cup.

Despite Angle returning, Corbin continued as the acting GM. The last time Angle was on TV, he helped Braun Strowman beat Corbin at TLC, with the help of a few others that included Finn Balor, Chad Gable, Bobby Roode and Heath Slater.

The heart of the matter

At the non-televised event, Corbin came out and asked anyone to challenge him. When no one appeared, he asked the referee to count to 10 and declare him the winner. However, just as the referee counted to 10, Angle's music hit and he walked down the aisle to challenge Corbin.

The Olympic goal-medalist did not win the match as the former GM-elect managed to pin him. This was the first singles match Angle has competed in for a long time.

What’s next?

Corbin has no real opponent at Royal Rumble and WWE may try and see how a feud with Angle works out. While it won't be a crowd puller, it might just be as entertaining as a mid-card rivalry and will help put Corbin over.
