WWE SummerSlam 2024 Results: Roman Reigns returns and turns! Judgment Day betrayal leads to new champion; 4 title changes

WWE SummerSlam kicked off with a performance from Jelly Roll before Triple H welcomed us to the show. The host of this year's SummerSlam, The Miz kicked things off before we headed for the first match of the night.


WWE SummerSlam Results (August 3, 2024):

  • Liv Morgan def. Rhea Ripley to retain the WWE Women's World Championship
  • Bron Breakker def. Sami Zayn to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion
  • LA Knight def. Logan Paul to become the new WWE United States Champion
  • Nia Jax def. Bayley to become the new WWE Women's Champion
  • Drew McIntyre def. CM Punk
  • Gunther def. Damian Priest to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion
  • Cody Rhodes def. Solo Sikoa to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship

WWE SummerSlam Results: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley - WWE Women's World Championship match

Morgan fled the ring early on and tried to run from Rhea who kept chasing her. Ripley was getting annoyed but managed to fake leaving the ring before catching the champ and delivering a beatdown. The match headed outside and Ripley sent Liv into the barricades before hitting a headbutt in the ring. Morgan dodged the Riptide before Rhea hurt her shoulder, yelling 'it's out!'.

The commentators guessed that Rhea had dislocated her shoulder again before Morgan kicked her against the steel steps. Liv went after the injured shoulder and locked in a submission move before hitting a modified codebreaker. Rhea came back with a big boot before Dom took a dive to the outside after shoving Rhea out of the way.

Rhea ran herself shoulder-first into the announce desk to get it back in place before going after Liv in the ring. Morgan countered the Riptide with a DDT before hitting a Crufix Driver and locking in an armbar. Morgan hit a headbutt and got a steel chair before taking a big boot and the Riptide in the ring.

She was going to use the steel chair on the champ but Dominik grabbed it and took it away. Liv used the distraction to get a dropkick on Rhea and hit the ObLivion for a near fall. Dominik sent the chair back in the ring and distracted the ref, letting Morgan hit the Oblivion on Rhea on the chair for the win!

Result: Liv Morgan def. Rhea Ripley to retain the WWE Women's World Championship

After the match, Dominik helped Liv back to her feet and kissed the champ before they walked off together.

Grade: A


Damian Priest was furious backstage and yelled at his teammates before grabbing Finn Balor by the neck, asking if he knew about Dominik's plans to betray Rhea. Balor said that they had no idea before he and the rest of Judgment Day headed out to find Dom.


WWE SummerSlam Results: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker - WWE Intercontinental Championship match

Sami dodged a spear right off the bat and Breakker was sent into the ringpost. Breakker dodged the Helluva Kick in the corner and got some big moves before blocking the Blue Thunder Bomb. The champ took the Steiner-line before hitting the Blue Thunder Bomb as the match continued.

Sami managed to hit an Exploder Suplex in the corner before going for the Helluva Kick but Breakker countered it with a spear. Bron hit a second spear before picking up the quick win!

Result: Bron Breakker def. Sami Zayn to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion

LA Knight drove into the arena in the Prime-branded truck that he stole last night on SmackDown and smashed the windows with a pipe before heading out.

Logan was out with music artist MGK and attacked LA Knight before the match. Knight sent Logan into the Prime hydration station before dropping him on the announce desk with a neckbreaker.

The match finally started as the two headed to the ring and Knight was sent into the corner before taking a big lariat from the champ. The two traded strikes in the middle of the ring before the champ got a near fall off a suplex. Knight came back with a powerslam before Paul hit a big moonsault to the outside.

Back in the ring, Knight missed the BFT and took the right hook before managing to kick out. Knight missed the BFT once more before Logan headed up top but was caught with a superplex. Logan went for the eyes of Knight but took a diving kick to the outside before Knight attacked Paul's friends at ringside.

MGK handed Paul the brass knuckles that he was wearing as a necklace but before the champ used it to counter a big move from Knight. Knight hit the BFT for the big win!

Result: LA Knight def. Logan Paul to become the new WWE United States Champion

Grade: B+


WWE SummerSlam Results: Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax - WWE Women's Championship match

Bayley started strong and managed to reverse a powerbomb before Nia took her down and stomped on her. Jax was sent outside and into the barricades before she knocked Bayley off the top rope and tried for a vertical suplex. The champ turned it into a guillotine but Jax managed to drop her and hit a senton.

Jax got a Samoan Drop on the floor before getting a near fall of the annihilator in the ring. Bayley got a massive top rope powerbomb before getting the elbow drop for a near fall. Tiffany Stratton showed up and it looked like she was going to cash in but the distraction allowed Nia to hit a powerbomb before getting two annihilators for the win.

Result: Nia Jax def. Bayley to become the new WWE Women's Champion

Grade: B+


WWE SummerSlam Results: CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre w/ guest referee Seth Rollins

Rollins called for the bell and Punk got the upper hand, sending Drew into the corner before going to argue with the ref. Drew used the distraction to take Punk down and unloaded on him with kicks before the latter sent him outside. Punk got a lariat off the apron before sending Drew into the post and then over the barricades.

Punk sent Drew into the steel steps and smacked his head into it over and over as Rollins watched and refused to count them out. Drew dropped Punk on the apron before knocking him into the announce desk twice. Drew sent Punk into the steel frame of the ring before they two returned to the ring. McIntyre got a powerbomb before getting a steel chair.

Drew told Rollins to look away and the ref did so at first but then took the chair away from him. Drew hit Rollins and the latter almost took Punk out with the chair by accident. Drew took out Punk's family bracelet before CM came back with a kick and running knees in the corner. Punk got the elbow drop for a near fall before locking in the anaconda vice, ripping the bracelet off Drew's arm.

McIntyre got a near fall off the claymore before Punk dodged the Futureshock DDT. Punk tried for the GTS but saw Rollins was wearing his bracelet. The distraction allowed Drew to take Punk and Rollins out before CM got the GTS but the ref was too late with the count.

Punk and Rollins argued for a bit before hitting Seth with the GTS and taking his bracelet back. McIntyre got a low blow and the Claymore off the distraction before getting the win.

Result: Drew McIntyre def. CM Punk

WWE SummerSlam Results: Damian Priest (c) vs. Gunther - WWE World Heavyweight Championship

The champ got a big flatliner early on and sent Gunther outside before knocking him down to the floor outside. Gunther sent Priest into the ring post and then the apron before hitting some big chops. Back in the ring, the two traded chops, and Gunther's chest was busted open. Gunther got a dropkick before Priest hit the South of Heaven for a near fall.

Gunther blocked the Razor's Edge before getting a big overhead slam and some clotheslines. Finn Balor showed up to cheer his teammate on and Gunther got a big boot before kicking Balor down at ringside. Priest was furious and came back with some clotheslines for his own before getting the Razor's Edge and the South of Heaven but Balor put Gunther's leg on the ropes to break the count!

Priest realized what had happened and was about to chase Balor down but Gunther locked in a sleeper hold. Priest broke the hold and went after Balor again but Gunther got him back in the sleeper before getting the win!

Result: Gunther def. Damian Priest to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion

The Miz and R-Truth came out to tell us that the attendance was a record bearing 57,791. A-Town Down Under came out to make fun of Awesome Truth and Cleveland before trash-talking Jelly Roll and MGK as well. Jelly Roll snuck up on A-Town Down Under with a steel chair and hit some shots before he and Awesome Truth hit triple Five-Knuckle Shuffles.


Cody Rhodes was headed to the arena with his dog Pharaoh when Hall of Famer Arn Anderson gave him a pep talk and said that he still had friends backstage. Anderson said that a couple of them might show up tonight to support Cody before we headed for the main event.


WWE SummerSlam Results: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa - Bloodline Rules Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship

Solo blocked the early offense from the champ before hitting a headbutt but was sent outside with a Disaster Kick. Cody took a Samoan Drop before blocking the Samoan Spike and hitting the Cody Cutter. Solo was sent into the Prime hydration station before Cody hit the Bionic Elbow in the ring. Sikoa came back with a powerbomb before getting a big uranage on the champ.

Cody hit the Cross Rhodes before Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa showed up and attacked the champ, delivering a beatdown. Cody kicked out even after the beatdown before Kevin Owens and Randy Orton made their returns and took down the Tongans. Owens got a stunner before Randy got the powerslam on Solo and KO got the Swanton Bomb.

Rhodes hit the Cross Rhodes for a near fall before getting the top half of the steel steps into the ring. Rhodes was about to hit Solo with the steps but took a spear before setting the champ in the corner against the steel steps. Solo missed the hip attack and ran into the steel before getting two Cross Rhodes. Jacob Fatu came in and hit the champ with a DDT and a dive but Cody still kicked out!

Cody was set up on the announce desk before Fatu hit the dive through it, hurting his ankle in the process. Cody took a splash in the ring for a near fall before Roman Reign made his return! Reigns hit Solo with a Superman Punch in the ring before taking him out with a spear and leaving. Cody was shocked but managed to hit the Cross Rhodes for the win.

Result: Cody Rhodes def. Solo Sikoa to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship

Grade: A


After the match, Roman Reigns stared Cody Rhodes down from the entrance ramp before WWE SummerSlam went off the air.
