It is often said that Vince McMahon is out of touch with regard to what the audience wants to see. I'm guessing that he believes that Brock Lesnar is a big-time box office player and him holding either world Championship will mean greater box-office appeal. But judging from comments on our own website and all over the internet, very few people want Lesnar to be the Champion.
There is heel heat, that draws you in to see the bad guy get beaten up. And there's what is called go-away heat, where the bad guy makes you change the channel altogether. Baron Corbin is someone with massive go-away heat.
Had the cash-in happened and Lesnar actually become either the Universal or WWE Champion, I have a feeling that a lot of viewers would have potentially tuned out. I'd go so far as to say that a failed cash-in wouldn't be the worst idea at this stage.
