WWE News: WWE teases another open challenge for Seth Rollins on Monday Night Raw this week

Seth Rollins took on Kevin Owens for the WWE Intercontinental Championship last week on Raw...

What's the story?

WWE.com posted a story on Friday morning seemingly teasing the fact that there will be another open challenge for Seth Rollins' WWE Intercontinental Championship on the next edition of Monday Night Raw.

In case you didn't know...

Upon winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 34, Rollins became the 11th Grand Slam Champion for the WWE under the modern format (one world championship, one tag championship, both secondary titles).

Eight days later, Jeff Hardy became the 12th to do so.

The heart of the matter...

Over the past two weeks, Rollins has issued the open challenge for his WWE Intercontinental Championship that he won at WrestleMania 34 when he defeated The Miz and Finn Balor in a triple threat match.

During those two open challenge matches, Rollins defeated Mojo Rawley and Kevin Owens in successive weeks.

Last week, Rollins posted the open challenge on Twitter with Owens answering the call. At the time of this writing, there hasn't been a similar post by Rollins, so we may not know who the challenger will be until Monday.

WWE.com also ran a story Friday listing five people who should answer the call to challenge for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

The most interesting name listed was Rey Mysterio. Other names on the list included Zack Ryder, Goldust, Braun Strowman, and Jinder Mahal.

What's next?

The WWE roster returns to the United States next week, and Monday Night Raw will take place from the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.

There will be qualifying matches for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match, as well as Sami Zayn threatening to expose Bobby Lashley.

Author's take...

I have always loved the open challenge concept going back a few years to when John Cena would do it with the WWE United States Championship.

The format provided for exciting moments when a surprising wrestler would answer the call, and it would also provide great matches.

In taking a look at the Raw roster, I personally would LOVE to see Chad Gable answer the challenge and take on Rollins.

For obvious reasons, Drew McIntyre would be another great option, but I don't think they want to take the title off of Rollins nor have McIntyre lose a match yet.
