WWE Top Five Rumors of the Week and analysis: 23 October, 2016

He’s back, but for how long?

Long-term WWE fans were taken to a trip down the memory lane this week thanks to the return of Goldberg. As for the new ones, they got to see one of the most influential names from the Monday Night Wars make a triumphant impact on the Monday Night Raw Ratings. Either way, it was an eventful week for the wrestling fans out there.

The rumour mill was no different as it pumped out some interesting rumours regarding the future plans that WWE has. And if you have not guessed it already, it also had Goldberg as a topic for speculations. There were also talks about the plans WWE had for WrestleMania and more. Here is a look at the top rumours of this week.

5: Two veterans returning

Bully Ray could return

WWE could be looking to strengthen their roster further as two former superstars could return. Boogeyman has apparently stopped taking up independent bookings and there are speculations about him showing up on Raw or SmackDown. Elsewhere, Bubba Ray Dudley, who recently left WWE along with D-Von, could return as a singles superstar.

He has teased the return numerous times and the same could happen at Royal Rumble next year. There are another set of rumors indicating at a return to SmackDown. No matter what happens, having Bubba Ray as a singles star would be a great thing for the company and the fans.

4: Rollins vs. Triple H to take place at Rumble and Wrestlemania

Two matches?

From the looks of it, WWE is still going on with their plans to have Seth Rollins and Triple H face off at WrestleMania. The Rollins vs. Triple H feud had been in the talks for a long time and these talks were fuelled when Triple H returned to help Kevin Owens win the Universal Championship. The latest rumors are suggesting that WWE could be planning the Seth Rollins vs. Triple H match on two occasions.

These two might face off first at Royal Rumble initially to set up their big match at WrestleMania. The Royal Rumble showdown, however, would have a tainted ending so as to make hype their next encounter.

3: Update on Trish Stratus and Mickie James

Trish was supposed to have matches in 2017

The fact that Mickie James was brought into to replace Trish Stratus at NXT Takeover: Toronto made rounds throughout the past couple of weeks. WWE wanted to put over Asuka as a monster heel by letting her defeat Trish Stratus and not only this, WWE had plans to bring back Trish Stratus for a few more matches in 2017 but unfortunately, her pregnancy made WWE change plans.

As for now, Mickie James is going to fill in the slot for Trish at Toronto and we can expect a similar outcome for the match. However, unlike with Trish, this will be a one match deal for Mickie.

2: WWE looking to bring in Goldberg for one more match

WWE looking to bring him in for WrestleMania

As mentioned in the introduction slide, the return of Goldberg was the major talking point this week. The former WCW champion’s return was a huge boost for Monday Night Raw. The numbers backed this up and due to the success of Goldberg’s return, WWE is looking to have his wrestle one more match, probably at WrestleMania next year.

The current set to rumours point towards a win for Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series but if WWE does manage to book Goldberg for one more match, this could change. There are also rumours suggesting Goldberg would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year.

1: Title changes at Hell in a Cell

The champions might hold on to their gold at HIAC

Survivor Series is getting all the hype thanks to the return of Goldberg. However, before WWE heads to the Survivor Series weekend, they have a major pay-per-view stop at Hell in a Cell. Almost all of the championships of Monday Night Raw will be on the line at the event but apparently, none of the championships are going to change hand.

This means that Seth Rollins, Charlotte, Sheamus and Cesaro, and Rusev could end up on the losing side at the pay-per-view. It also hints at the extra booking ideas that WWE might roll out at the event in order to keep the hype up for Survivor Series.
