WWE Top Five Rumors of the week and analysis: March 5, 2017

Angle to be GM?

WWE was busy with the last minute preparations for Fastlane throughout the week and it has resulted in some huge excitement around the pay-per-view. The rumour mill spoke of potential winners, returns and much more that could happen at the show.

We will be filtering out the Fastlane based rumours for the time being and focus on other speculation that poked up. Speaking of which, there were talks of the rumoured return of Hardy Brothers, a potential reunion and much more. The list takes a closer look at the rumours and their potential impact.

#5 The Hardyz to join the WWE?

New twist in the Hardy saga

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy are expected to sign with the WWE soon after their talks with Impact wrestling reportedly broke down. The Broken Hardys, who have been a mainstay in Impact Wrestling for some time, apparently wanted creative control in the promotion to re-sign.

Cageside Seats reported that the promotion was not ready to give the same and this, in turn, has resulted in a possible split between the two parties.

If this is indeed the case, WWE would be the prime destination for Matt and Jeff. Last week, there were rumours of the brothers showing up at WrestleMania 33 and now, with the contract talks with TNA in the water, the return is more likely to happen.

#4 A reunion being planned

Reuniting with Harper?

The WWE Championship scenario went through a new twist after Randy Orton turned on Bray Wyatt. While AJ Styles was crowned the new number one contender, Orton turning on Bray Wyatt has left the fans with a lot of questions.

Orton said that he would be coming for the WWE Championship and Orton’s turn could result in a reunion of Luke Harper and Bray according to rumours reported by Cageside Seats.

Vince McMahon has reportedly decided not to push Harper further up the card and this could be one of the biggest motives to put Harper back with Bray. AJ, meanwhile, is linked with a match against Shane McMahon at WrestleMania, but the way in which WWE would eliminate him from the title scenario is yet to be known.

#3 More changes in Impact Wrestling

Karen could have a regular role

Impact Wrestling under Anthem is making huge stride to improve the promotion. Dutch Mantell and Jeff Jarrett will be heading the change and we can expect some old names to make returns, according to Cageside Seats’ rumour round-up. Karen Jarrett is one name being discussed and she could return to a regular television role in the company.

Meanwhile, the company is also looking for younger talent rather than going for established names. One name that should not be expected is Alberto Del Rio. Although he won the title in a surprising manner recently, he is apparently too costly for the current Impact Wrestling layout, meaning that he might not be seen on a regular basis.

#2 Rusev to take a hiatus

Rusev to take a break?

WWE might have some gaping holes in their mid-card after WrestleMania as Rusev is expected to take a break from the company according to rumours reported by Cageside seats. Rusev has been a mainstay in the WWE Monday Night Raw programming ever since the brand split and his absence would be something that WWE would have to cope with.

The break, however, is expected to be a short one.

#1 Kurt Angle to replace Mick Foley

Angle to be GM?

Kurt Angle has been featured in a lot of rumours ever since he was announced for the Hall of Fame this year. There have been talks of Angle possibly wrestling in the WWE once again and now, a new report by Uproxx suggests that Angle could replace Mick Foley as the General Manager of Monday Night Raw.

Mike Johnson of the PWinsider had also hinted that Angle could return on the episode of Raw after WrestleMania.

Angle is someone who has already filled in the General Manager spot for WWE in the past and with his health being an issue, taking up a non-wrestling role in the company would be a good way to make use of his star power. Angle is expected to appear on Monday Night Raw in April and there is also a talk of him being on SmackDown afterwards.
