What’s the story?

Earlier today, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officially announced and confirmed the return of former WWE superstar CM Punk to the octagon, who is now set to step into the MMA Cage against Mike Jackson later this year.

In case you didn’t know…

Since leaving WWE in 2014, CM Punk has gone on to try and make a name for himself in the world of Mix Martial Arts under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner. In 2015, Punk started training under Duke Roufus at Roufusport MMA Academy and is still currently working alongside the former W.K.A World Super Heavyweight Champion.

In September 2016, Punk made his UFC debut against Mickey Gall but. However, is debut was short-lived, as he lost in the first round of the match, via a rear naked choke.

The heart of the matter

After a lot of speculations throughout the early stages of 2018, UFC has finally sealed the second Octagon appearance for former WWE Champion Phil Brooks aka CM Punk.

The promotion took it to their social media sites last night and confirmed that Punk will step back into the Octagon within two months’ time, when “The Second City Saint” goes head-to-head against Mike Jackson at UFC 225 in Chicago.

Much like Punk, his forthcoming opponent Mike Jackson also came up short in his debut fight in the Octagon when he lost to a similar adversary in Mickey Gall.

What’s next?

UFC 225 will take place on the 9th of June at the United Center and the card already features two title fights, as Robert Whittaker defends his middleweight belt against Yoel Romero in the main event live on pay-per-view.

And Rafael Dos Anjos battles Colby Covington in the co-main event of the evening for the interim welterweight title.

Author’s Take

Both CM Punk and Mike Jackson are certainly two very inexperienced fighters in the MMA world, however, with Punk fighting in his hometown of Chicago this time we could definitely expect an upset win for the former WWE World Champion.
