2016 has not been kind to the Pakistan cricket team so far; they have had a couple of forgettable outings as far as multi-nation tournaments are concerned. The 'Men in Green’ had fared very poorly at the Asia Cup in Bangladesh as they failed to qualify for the final, losing their respective group stage matches to India and Bangladesh quite convincingly.

The ICC T20 World Cup in India too didn't turn out to be as expected for the Pakistanis. After having defeated their Bangladeshi counterparts by a massive margin of 55 runs, Pakistan succumbed at the hands of India, Australia and New Zealand. They finished their World T20 campaign with just a couple of points in their kitty, at the number four position of a five-team table.

The team returned to Pakistan in three groups on Sunday with their flights landing at Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore respectively. An assembly of Pakistani players such as Umar Akmal, Mohammad Irfan, Ahmed Shehzad and others including their manager Intikhab Alam, who had landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, had to face the outrage of the disappointed Pakistani fans.

Although their skipper Shahid Afridi decided to spend a few days at Dubai before setting foot in Pakistan, that didn't stop the enraged fans shouting slogans such as “Shame, shame” to let their players know that they weren't impressed with their performance in India.

An eye-witness who was present at the scene told 7 News, “Players, minus Amir, were greeted with ‘shame, shame’ slogans as soon they came out of (the) airport. Amir, however, received praise from fans and they kept filming videos of the pacer.”
