5 Superstars who should have won the Royal Rumble instead of Roman Reigns

WWE trended worldwide after Royal Rumble for all the wrong reasons. When the fans saw the Triple threat match between Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins and John Cena, they expected the pay-per-view to go home in the same intensity but thanks to some bad booking, it ended flat on the ground.Roman Reigns winning the Rumble was the biggest complaint about the pay-per-view and looking at the bigger picture, WWE did have a lot of alternatives to the Samoan Superman. The Reigns win cannot be reversed now but here is a look at some ‘What should have been’ situations that the company wasted last night in the Land of Extreme when the produced Royal Rumble.

#5 Undertaker

Undertaker did not appear at the Rumble but he is almost sure to wrestle at WrestleMania against Bray Wyatt. So if the company was going to drag him back into the ring in a matter of months, why couldn’t they let him win the Rumble and have a rematch with Lesnar?

If the company was worried about the fragile state of Bryan when it came to letting him win, they could have easily gone with Taker as the last entrant. No one would have booed Taker if he eliminated Bryan because it is hard to hate the Phenom.

Taker facing Lesnar at Mania would have made it an unpredictable match since both men would find it hard to stay for a longer period after the pay-per-view.

#4 Seth Rollins

Why? Because everything he touches turns into five star that’s why. Though Royal Rumble will be remembered for the screw up that WWE did with Roman Reigns, the real hero was Rollins.

He simply stole the limelight last night with his performance in the Triple Threat match. Rollins proved that he could give names like Lesnar and Cena a run for their money and deserves to headline the granddaddy of them all as well.

A one on one match between Rollins and Lesnar at Mania would have been compelling and if they had turned Lesnar face using the Paul Heyman factor, it was a perfect scenario.

#3 Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler was having a hot run in the WWE before he was fired by the Authority. His momentum was toned down big time after the return but all that could have been changed if Ziggler won the Royal Rumble.

Like Rollins, Ziggler is someone who delivers a solid match even in his sleep. Over the years he has been busting his rear in the company and it was only fitting to give him some appreciation with the Rumble win.

A Ziggler vs. Lesnar match WrestleMania might not be appealing to many but at the end of the day, it all comes down to the in ring action and WWE can clearly trust Ziggler with that.

#2 Dean Ambrose

Imagine a match between the Lunatic Fringe and the Beast, the promos between Paul Heyman and Dean Ambrose, Ambrose winning the championship. All these are insanely awesome prospects but WWE decided to go with Reigns.

After the elimination of Daniel Bryan, the fans were chanting for Ambrose because he carried a truck load of that ECW aura. Apart from that, Ambrose proved to be the right superstars behind whom the fans could rally.

Now that he did not win the Rumble, Ambrose is lost ahead of the WrestleMania period. He does not have a credible feud to be involved in unless WWE brings back the Rollins – Ambrose classic.

#1 Daniel Bryan

If Vince McMahon had thought like a fan instead of a business man before the Royal Rumble, Daniel Bryan would have won the Battle Royal. Bryan’s win and a showdown with Lesnar at WrestleMania is what the WWE Universe wanted and no getting it resulted in the wrath we saw in the Internet.

Of course it would be unfair to blame WWE for letting Bryan lose. His physical state is still a question mark making it a big risk to let him involved in a big storyline like the WrestleMania main event.

Letting Bryan win was never an option but WWE shouldn’t have bought him back before the Rumble in the first place. Since they did that sin, Bryan should have gone all the way to win it.
