10 WWE Superstars and their favourite football Clubs

For some, professional wrestling and football might be poles apart. There aren’t many links that connect these two sports together but under all those heavily dramatized gimmicks, most of the superstars actually have some love for the league football.Soccer not being immensely popular in the United States is one of the reasons why we don’t see a lot of WWE names interacting with European clubs, but this reason hasn’t been strong enough to keep the wrestlers away.Over the years, many WWE superstars have expressed their love of European clubs. While some picked the household big names to support, others went with some eyebrow-raising choices. So if you ever wondered which football club got the vote of certain WWE superstars, jump into the list and find out.

#11 Honourable Mention: Rusev Real Madrid

Real life couple, Rusev and Lana have been seen attending many sporting events and when the company embarked on a European tour, the duo decided to drop by the Santiago Bernabeu, the home of Real Madrid.

The Bulgarian Brute is apparently a diehard Blancos fan and has mentioned about the club in his official Twitter account as well. So if any Madrid hater out there wants to lock horns with a Madrid fan, Rusev’s Twitter account is more than open.

#10 Sheamus - Liverpool

Growing up in Ireland is almost sure to draw someone into being a Premier League fan. Apparently the same happened to Sheamus. The Celtic Warrior is known to be a big time rugby supporter but alongside this, Sheamus also reserves some place in his heart for Liverpool.

So when he got the chance to drop by as part of WWEs European tour, Sheamus made sure that he went out with a photo wearing the Liverpool shirt.

Though its seen as a promotional stunt by some, Sheamus himself have admitted his love for football on various occasions along with admitting that he loves Rugby more.

#9 Fandango Everton

WWE’s resident ballroom dancer’s theme music did wonders in the ITunes list and was immediately noted by the Everton staff. They played Fandango’s theme song on the stadium loudspeaker on a Saturday game that followed WrestleMania 29 which proved to be an immediate hit with the fans.

Fandango who heard about the news grew curious about Everton and decided to pay a personal visit to Goodison Park. When WWE was having their European tour that dream materialized big time.

During his visit, Fandango took many promotional pictures in the Everton kit and was apparently close with the then Everton Manager, David Moyes. The WWE superstar was impressed with the club and expressed his support as well.

#8 Kofi Kingston Chelsea

Professional wrestling might not be a mainstay in the Ghana but football definetly is. Just like almost all the other African nations, the people in Ghana are head over heels when it comes to European football.

Chelsea has seen a number of Ghanaian players in their team lineup over the years with the most notable being Michael Essien. This might’ve been the reason why Essien decided to follow the blues and if not, he is fan anyway.

Kofi is yet to be seen in a Chelsea shirt in public but he did reveal about this love for the club in an interview he had during the company’s UK visit a couple of years back.

#7 Adrian Neville Newcastle United

The reigning NXT champion might’ve had a love for professional wrestling from his young days itself but another striking thing that he acquired while growing up in the streets of Newcastle was the love for Newcastle United.

He is probably one of the craziest football fans you can see in the professional wrestling business and a lot of that has to do with being born in the United Kingdom. Also, he has been incredibly vocal about his support for the team as well.

With Neville waiting to break into the main roster scene, the Newcastle fans will be having some more reason to be happy apart from their club enjoying a good stay in the top half of the table this season.

#6 Bad News Barrett Preston North end

Another name brought up and bred in England, Barrett is a big supporter of the current League one side Preston North end. And unlike most of the other names in the list, Barrett is not just an ordinary football club fan.

He has plenty of contacts in the club and many players and staff is his friends as well. The British Brawlers is known to be a regular follower of the English football scenario and if someone supports a team in League one, we know that it’s the purest form of love.

Barrett is currently recovering from an injury at the moment and hopefully both him and his favorite Club with return with a bang soon.

#5 Alberto Del Rio - Real Madrid

Though many superstars support football clubs, seeing them wear the team shirts for a WWE show is rarity. The company has made some divas wear the shirt in the past as part of some gimmick matches but Del Rio decided to wear it voluntarily for a handful of times.

And whose team shirt did he wear? Real Madrid, of course. Del Rio has been a big fan of the team for a long time now and even had a personal visit to the Bernabeu a couple of times.

He has made numerous tweets about Real Madrid in his Twitter account and also mentioned about this love for the club in an interview he had before WrestleMania 28 which he missed due to injury.

#4 Rey Mysterio Real Madrid

Mysterio’s never ending love for the Mexican national team was there to be seen during this year’s FIFA world cup. The Ultimate underdog was firmly behind his team throughout the tournament and had some pretty encouraging tweets.

While Mexico won Mysterio’s heart on the National level, it was Real Madrid that attracted Mysterio at club level football.

The Master of 619 once had a personalized visit to the Bernabeu and that too with full access to the locker rooms. He met with the lights of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Raul and Marcelo and what more would a Real Madrid fan want (apart from winning the Champions league that is).

#3 Stone Cold Steve Austin - Bolton Wanderers

This might be a bit hard for the bigger teams to digest, but the bottom line is Steve Austin is a Bolton Wanderers fans because Stone Cold said so. Austin being the new fanboy was actually celebrated big time by the Bolton fans all across the internet back in 2009.

Austin also gave a good luck message to the team as well while they were preparing for a match against Tottenham in the same year.

The Texas Rattlesnake’s love for the club hasn’t been overly public as the other fans would’ve wanted, but there are still portions of the people in the Macron Stadium that proudly say with a puffed chest that Austin is a wanderer.

#2 The Rock - Manchester United

Manchester United has a long array of celebrity fans and Rock belongs to that list. The Brahma Bull was seen doing a great amount of charity work after he left the WWE and his love for Manchester United was exposed in a similar event.

He came to the event sporting the away shirt of the red devils and wore it better than any celebrity fan wouldve worn.

The picture did a lot of round in the Internet and though there were some rumors suggesting that Rocks favorite football team was Macclesfield, it was the Manchester United jersey he chose to wear which pretty much closed the debate.

#1 John Cena Tottenham Hotspurs

Cena has been the face of WWE for more than a decade now. So when he decided to drop by White Hart Lane and get a personalized Tottenham shirt, the fans went crazy.

The incident happened back in 2008 while WWE was having their annual UK tours and the Cenation leader backed Tottenham big time. His got the 54 number shirt from the former Spurs Manager Gerry Francis and even posed for a good old promotional photo.

Cena’s love for the football didn’t end there as he was seen tweeting several encouraging signs for the United States National team while they were playing in the FIFA World Cup earlier this year.
