WWE Night of Champions 2014 : 5 Superstars that would shine at the pay-per-view

If the fans were to rate WWE’s buildup to SummerSlam, it wouldn’t have scored a higher value compared to how the Show turned out. However, just after two weeks into their buildup to Night of Champions, WWE is pulling all the right chords to make it a memorable pay-per-view.The match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar would be taking the centre stage for this one as well. The duo has been getting some strong booking from the writers while it has earned a fair share of mainstream attention due to the star power. No other match has been officially added to the pay-per-view but a showdown for the United States title and the Tag Team title is expected to be in the mix soon. Before the match card gets its completion, here is a look at some of the Superstars who could come out on top at Night of Champions.

#5 Brock Lesnar

Lesnar’s in ring ability was up for debate when he was revealed as the main eventer for SummerSlam. He was tagged as a part timer who got some over protective booking from the writers but Lesnar managed to silence his critics.

It was a ruthless beating that he gave Cena at the Staples Center and was simply his best match of the year which included a WrestleMania streak ending ceremony.

The next stop that Lesnar would make is Night of Champions. Unlike the previous pay-per-views, he will be going in as the champion. When this would be pressure for some, Lesnar would only thrive under such circumstances.

No matter if he loses or wins, Lesnar will go out there and teach Cena another lesson on how to suplex one’s opponent.

#4 Goldust and Stardust

There are a lot of turns that the WWE Universe would’ve love to see but when Cody Rhodes and Goldust pulled off a surprise, it gave new life to the tag team division.

Being the only credible heel team in the roster, the Wyatt Family was given double duty almost every time they went against Usos.

Having defeated the Wyatts in two pay-per-views, the champions didn’t have any more heel contenders as Rybaxel was too small for the same.

However, the heel turn of the Rhodes Brothers sets the stage well for both teams. Both Cody and Goldust have been two of the most consistent names in the roster and a new direction makes them worthy of another title run.

#3 Cesaro

A couple of weeks back if there was a talk about Cesaro, it would’ve been one surrounding how he is ill used by the WWE writers despite having a lot of talent.

Well even if the problem is not completely solved for Night of Champions, he atleast has a title shot in his hands ensuring some pay-per-view time for the Swiss Superman.

When the year started, he was expected to face names like Cena or Lesnar at SummerSlam but ended up facing Rob Van Dam in the preshow.

His career is not taking the path that he would’ve wanted but Cesaro wouldn’t let go of the opportunity he got to shine.

#2 Roman Reigns

Being one of the most protected stars in the roster is never too easy. Reigns might be feeling that pressure when he heads to NOC but his possible opponents suggest otherwise.

Reigns at this moment could face either Randy Orton or Seth Rollins with an outside possibility of Kane. On all three occasions, Reigns has the chances to emerge victorious while getting a solid booking along with the result.

Also, he is finally acknowledging the fact that Rollins betrayed the Shield as this was a big flow in his character which went right after the gold without seeking redemption.

The absence of Ambrose is working for Reigns at this moment and he would hopefully give the seat back to the lunatic fringe.

#1 John Cena

Isn’t it obvious? Cena has all the ammunition he needs to make Night of Champions a milestone for him. After the brutal outing at SummerSlam, if Cena manages to win at NOC, it would go into the history books without much trouble.

It might not be a popular decision among the WWE Universe but if Lesnar has to leave after NOC, this will be the only option that the company would have.

When considering the other case, it also looks good for Cena. If Lesnar is here to stay, Cena would be picking up another big loss which would help his character reduce the 50-50 chants.

Even a short glimpse of aggression or spell of dominance would make Cena look good which ensures a good outing for the Cenation leader.
