WWE SummerSlam 2014 : Predictions for Every Champion and Possible Opponents

Four out of five championships in WWE were up for grabs at Battleground, but the fans only saw the crowning of one new champion as Miz came out of nowhere to capture the Intercontinental championship which was vacated after Bad News Barrett picked up an injury.John Cena retained his WWE championship fending off three opponents in the main event of the pay-per-view while Usos also produced a great performance against Wyatt Family to keep hold of their tag titles.Though the divas match between AJ Lee and Paige wasnt up to the level of other championship matches, it didnt see the gold change hand and has left the fans eager for SummerSlam.Almost all the titles might be put on the line due to the sheer importance of the pay-per-view so here is a look at how the champions could be booked when WWE lands in Staples Center on August 17.

#5 Divas Championship

AJ’s current title is still tender and it is unlikely that WWE would let her drop the championship at a stage like SummerSlam.

From the looks of it, the Divas division is all set to push forward the feud between AJ Lee and Paige all the way to SummerSlam. There is no need of raising questions regarding the credibility of this match as these two are divas who deserve the grand stage.

Even if WWE decides to go with any other diva other than Paige, AJ is sure to walk out of SummerSlam with the title around her waist as taking it away too quickly would further devalue the thing.

The only thing that the company should be concerned about is how they book the match as last time it didn’t end up looking good.

Prediction: AJ retains

Possible opponent: Paige

#4 United States Championship

The curious case of United Championship was supposed to be solved once Dean Ambrose dropped it to Sheamus. Though the Celtic Warrior showed glimpse of the same during the inception of his reign, soon WWE started to prove that the title doesn’t have much importance in the roster.

If it was otherwise, then the United States champion wouldn’t have went into matches which gave him a shot at the other titles. As things stand now, Sheamus has no real opponent to talk about as he was involved in the Intercontinental title chase at Battleground.

WWE have been pitting the idea of unifying the title for a long time, and if that goes ahead, Sheamus might end up facing The Miz. If not, Cesaro is a prime candidate to get a shot now that he is wandering around clueless.

Prediction: Sheamus retains

Possible Opponent: Cesaro

#3 Intercontinental Championship

Barrett vacating the title was one of the painful things that WWE had to witness and WWE tried to sort out the situation by making Miz the champion through a Battle royal match.

Miz lost out his first match as champion which made the fans scratch their head as it was a match which was supposed to lay the foundation for his reign. WWE might be trying to book the Awesome one as a duck champion which ensures the title being around his waist for some more time.

As far as the opponents are concerned, Dolph Ziggler will have a big say now that he defeated the champion.

At the same time, Bo Dallas might also get pushed into the mix thanks to the momentum he is carrying. Either way, Miz is going to retain the title in a cheap way which will do him no good in the longer run.

Prediction: Miz Retains

Possible Opponents: Bo Dallas or Dolph Ziggler

#2 Tag Team Championship

Though Usos deserve to be tag team champions, their reign has been spoiled due to lack of opponents in the division. Their reign is awkwardly stretched and there would not be any point in ending it at SummerSlam.

Wyatt Family has given everything that they could to make the champions look good and another match isn’t likely to happen. This leaves Goldust and Stardust as the only possible challengers for the title after the duo has find new heights thank to Cody’s new gimmick.

The company could also push the idea of having a triple threat tag team match between the three teams since a regular tag match would leave one team out from the biggest pay-per-view of the summer.

Prediction: Usos Retains

Possible Opponents: Goldust and Stardust

#1 WWE World Heavyweight Championship

The only match made so far for SummerSlam is between John Cena and Brock Lesnar for the title and it might be the best chance of fans to see a title change at the pay-per-view.

Cena’s 15th title reign isn’t something which is popular among the WWE Universe and they would love to see the title taken away from him. At the same time, this would be Lesnar’s first match after ending the streak at WrestleMania making him a favorite.

A multi—pay-per-view feud between the two is what the company is planning right now and this is sure to include Cena dropping the title to Lesnar.

It might not be a long reign from Lesnar but might make the fans accept that Cena is a better choice. Summerslam is bound to be a game changer for the company and it depends on how well they pull of this title change.

Prediction: Cena drops to Brock Lesnar
