WWE Top 5 Rumors of the Week and Analysis: 30 November, 2014

The past seven days have been nothing short of eventful in the professional wrestling world. It started off with a solid outing at Survivor Series where the much awaited debut of Sting and the death of Authority happened.Fans expected the shows that followed to be of similar quality but in typical WWE style, they all got screwed up. However, the shock value expectations were met thanks to CM Punk. The straight edge superstar finally broke his silence on why he left WWE and it wasn’t pretty for anyone. Rumor mills have been buzzing ever since and here is a look at the top rumors that came across this week and their potential impact.

#5 WWE thinking about another brand split

The good old days of Raw and SmackDown being separate brands with separate rosters might be coming back as the company is looking to elevated SmackDown to the status of Monday Night Raw.

There are rumors of SmackDown moving to Thursday night and going live to get the job done. If that is the case, then a brand split would be the best path.

WWE needs not run same storylines for 5 hours of programming every week and instead could run separate angles on both shows.

The fans were clearly into the whole brand split thing last time around and if they could let someone like Paul Heyman take the control of the blue brand, then we might see some pretty interesting developments in the WWE very soon.

#4 Randy Orton was scheduled to return at Survivor Series main event

WWE flew in Randy Orton to the St. Louis, Missouri on the day of Survivor Series as the Viper was supposed to make his return at Survivor Series main event.

However, for some reason, the company opted to keep Orton’s return on hold and went with the big one of Sting. This pretty much explains that the decision to let Sting debut was still up in the air till the last moment.

Orton meanwhile will have to wait a couple of more weeks to get back into the ring as he is wrapping up the filming. There is no news on when Sting would come back and it might even end up like a one – appearance segment which was there just to give the fans a great moment at Survivor Series.

#3 ECW Originals to be in Royal Rumble

Next year’s Royal Rumble would be held in Philadelphia on January 25, 2015 which is known to be the land of rabid ECW fans. The original ECW fans have always made WWE pay if they screw up in some capacity and the last thing Vince McMahon wants is something like happening at Royal Rumble.

So to make sure that the ECW fans don’t hijack the show completely, WWE might be bringing in the ECW originals like Sabu, Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, and a some more as surprise Royal Rumble entrants.

The Rumble might also be made of 40 superstars which gives plenty of place for the ECW originals. Roman Reigns is currently slated to win the match but plans could always change.

#2 Triple H wants to kill CM Punk

CM Punk did some big burials in Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast. He took big shots at the WWE medical team, tagged Ryback as a steroid guy, criticized Vince McMahon’s lack of future planning and said that Triple H had a big ego.

His rant had everything that was needed to evoke a response from WWE. The public explanation from the company only came about their medical team and wellness policy while all the other buried superstars stayed low.

Ryback did tweet something against Punk, nothing came from Vince or Hunter. Well, apparently they are furious, especially Triple H. He actually ‘wants to kill’ CM Punk for the comments made about how WWE is run and to be frank, Hunter has all the rights to feel so.

#1 Sting vs Undertaker still in the plans

Sting may have made us wait for 13 whole years but when his debut finally came, it was a moment worth cherishing. His debut however gave rise to many more questions among the WWE Universe.

Till now, the most obvious opponent for Sting to face was the Undertaker but the physical condition of the Phenom has been a big hurdle for the same.

Fans almost gave up on the idea of seeing Taker and Sting in between the ropes and the company underlined that when they made Sting debut against Triple H. A Sting – Triple H feud is the obvious way to go after this but the good news is: they still haven’t dropped the idea of seeing a Taker – Sting match.

If Taker is still up and running we will see the dream showdown in WrestleMania and that is going to be a big draw. The other matches planned include Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar and Rusev vs Rock.
