Top 5 WWE rumours of the week and analysis: January 11, 2015

An eventful first week of 2015 is behind us and the WWE is three less in number thanks to the kayfabe firing of Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan and Ryback. Apparently some big angle is being planned for the trio to make their return but they barely made it to the rumors mills this week.A lot of speculations that came after the New Year concentrated on the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania that rather than what WWE was planning to do with the fired trio.Apart from the usual suspects, Jerry Lawler’s demotion to the SmackDown brand kicked off another wild rumor which might turn out to be true. All these rants might or might not turn into fruition once the time goes by, but before all that, here is a summary of the best rumors and their potential impact.

#5 Renee Young to replace Jerry Lawler

WWE recently announced a permanent change to their announce team when they demoted Jerry Lawler to SmackDown. The company apparently wants to take Jerry off the live television as they don’t want to repeat the heart attack incident one again.

And since the company could not do it in one go, they decided to demote him first and take the process slow. When it comes to Jerry’s replacement, the current name is Booker T but he could only be a temporary arrangement.

Renee Young is the favorite to take Jerry’s chair and since she has been doing some great work down in NXT, it would only be fitting to give her a chance in the bigger stage.

#4 Randy Savage in Hall of Fame

The jinx of not making it into the Hall of Fame might be just ending for Randy Savage in 2015 as he is rumored to be one of the names in this year’s class.

There have been a lot of debates about why Savage was not inducted into the Hall of Fame for such a long time even though he had a career which was only bettered by the Hulkster himself. Some said that it was because of his alleged relation with Stephanie while others say he has bad blood with Vince.

Vince was quizzed about the same in the Steve Austin podcast a couple of months back but the chairman had some readymade answers. At the end of the day, if Savage makes it into the HOF, then it would be thoroughly deserved.

#3 Sheamus to be surprise entrant at Royal Rumble

A lot of the fans wouldn’t have noticed the absence of Sheamus for some reason or the other. The Celtic Warriors was taken out prior to the Survivor Series and there were no hints on when or how he will return.

That question, however, looks to have sorted out. Sheamus might be all set to make his WWE return as a surprise entrant at the Royal Rumble. There are also discussions about him being a heel and starting a feud with Daniel Bryan.

Sheamus returning as a heel is indeed a great idea to begin with but putting him in a program with Daniel Bryan might not turn out to be the best decision if WWE goes forward with it.

#2 Vince McMahon furious at NXT

Vince McMahon is reportedly furious about NXT being seen as a superior product to the WWE. The boss thinks that most of the NXT fans give the product an underserving due while the main roster has always been better.

Also, Vince believes that a majority of the NXT superstars are over rated which in turn is the reason for them bombing when they come up to the big scene. Now, Vince has all the reason to be mad but once in a while he should think about it.

NXT is the better product, period. And as far as Superstars being overrated are concerned, it has to do with the way one sees them as Vince looks for entertainers and us fans look for wrestlers.

#1 Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns might headline WrestleMania 31

The reason for including Seth Rollins into the title match at Royal Rumble was indeed worth scratching one’s head. WWE earlier billed the match between Cena and Lesnar as the final battle and would’ve sold out arenas just with that tag.

However, Rollins could be the triumph card for WWE. Lesnar’s contract is going to run out soon and if he doesn’t resign with the company, he might lose his title at the rumble. The idea is to let Cena win the match and let Rollins cash in to become the new champion.

On the other side, Reigns would win the Royal Rumble setting up a WrestleMania showdown between the two former Shield Members. Hopefully, they would add Ambrose into the mix and make it a triple threat.
