Top 5 tactics that present day Heels use in WWE

Behind every successful hero is a villain who knows how to get the job done. Just like Batman needs Joker and Superman needs kryptonite, the baby faces in professional wrestling would find it hard to survive if they don’t have credible heels to produce conflict. On paper, finding a heel might sound easy but in reality, being a heel is much harder than going out and pleasing the crowd. Playing the bad guy is an art that has been perfected by some legendary names in the business and they have a textbook of tactics on what needs to be done to get heat from the crowd. The current crop of heels has also been following the path laid down. So here is a look at some of those heel tactics that the heels take out from their kitty to make the fans jeer.

#5 The low blow

Let’s start off with the classic one shall we? The Low blow has been one of the oldest and most traditional heel tactics in professional wrestling. There is no explanations needed for this one, but then again, here goes: The idea is to hit your opponent illegally in a place below the waist.

The heels usually pull this off behind the referee’s back making the entire effect almost double. It is a cheap move in front of the fans and if it is a big match, then this ladies and gentlemen is sure to enrage anyone tuning into the match. Low blows are still seen in plenty and it is probably one of those heel tactics which will never go out of fashion.

#4 Intentional disqualifications

Okay so we have a highly hyped pay-per-view main event between a heel champion and a baby face contender. Both the superstars are in the ring, the bell rings and all of a sudden the champion hits the referee and gets disqualified.

He goes home with the championship around the waist and the fans, well you can imagine how fans will feel. Getting disqualified intentionally to win the match is one of the best things you could do as a heel.

And since it crashes down the expectations of fans in just a matter of seconds, a lot of superstars have used his to gain some quick heat. However, pulling this off in pay-per-views like WrestleMania would go down in the books as a career suicide.

#3 Getting the manager in the mix

The manager – superstar relation is better love story that twilight by light years. In most of the cases, the managers are there to cover up the microphone shortcomings of a wrestler but once the match starts, these managers morph into a crucial turning point in the bouts.

To get the facts straight, not all the managers does it. Superstars like Brock Lesnar or Undertaker didn’t need their managers to cover for them but a majority of the mangers out there relies on interferences to help their client.

The outside interference from manager is clearly something that winds up the fans and speaking of outside interferences, that takes us to our next tactic.

#2 Building a stable just to be protected

The heel needs some outside interference to win the match but he doesn’t have a manager, so what does he do? He just builds a stable with some lower tier guys and runs around with them for some Z level security.

Surrounding yourself with people just to be protected from the opponents is probably the epitome of being a coward (unless you are Goldberg and has a fire breathing entrance in WCW). Seth Rollins is doing this idea perfectly with his J & J security.

Names like Kurt Angle and JBL is also known for relying on this tactic and all those instances offered guaranteed heat for the heels.

#1 Being the Authoritys loyal dog

No one is going to care about you when you run around in the WWE midcard as a singles heel. But hang around with the Authority every now and then, and it will be a whole different story.

Authority figures have been the shortcut for heel brilliance in WWE for the past two years now. A lot of superstars including Randy Orton, Big Show, Kane and now Seth Rollins are portraying the role of being the Authority’s loyal dog perfectly.

If you thought that this tactic is something new around the block, then thing again. There have been a lot of instances of such situations in the past as well making this fall into the timeless heel tactics.
