WWE Rumours: John Cena wrestling six months or less in 2017

Can John Cena now be considered a part-timer?

Since late 2015, it has been clear that John Cena is gradually transitioning into a very different role in the WWE. He has been making a big name for himself outside of WWE as well, with multiple projects.

When asked whether he will appear for more or less than six months for WWE in 2017, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter said

There is no question that Cena has earned the schedule he has now in WWE after being the face of it for over 11 years. Among all the faces of the company (Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, & himself) no other has been on top as long as he has.

His live event appearances have considerably lessened in 2016 as well, and will likely continue to do so in 2017.

It was announced yesterday by the leader of the Cenation himself that he will be hosting Saturday Night Live this December 10th along with Casey Affleck. In doing this, he becomes the third WWE superstar to ever host an episode of SNL, with the other two being Hulk Hogan and The Rock.

This is another huge step in his career outside of WWE. As his WWE career comes winding down, it is certainly beneficial for him to branch out more, in order to attain true mainstream popularity.

He is also set to make a cameo appearance as himself in Thor: Ragnarok. He has been hosting award shows and is also currently filming the second season of American Grit, which he is the host of.

From the looks of it, John Cena’s availability in lieu of his WWE commitments will only continue to attract more parties in getting him to be part of their projects. This will leave WWE with having to likely make John Cena a special attraction eventually, similar to Brock Lesnar, or now, even Goldberg for that matter.

However, he will very likely continue to wrestle at Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and other such big shows.

While he reiterates on a constant basis that he going nowhere, the reality is that his schedule outside the WWE is getting busier by the day, which means that it is only a matter of time before he fully hangs up his boots for a non-wrestling career instead.
