Talking Smack is more like the “worked shoot” show. It has garnered huge acclaim among fans for its nature, and how it has helped further storylines and elevate characters. Renee Young and Smackdown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan are the co-hosts of the show, and the GM of the blue brand goes all out on the show.
On the latest edition of Talking Smack, he criticised Raw commissioner and General Manager Stephane McMahon and Mick Foley of being “somewhat cowardly” in the way they run Raw. He said:
“Cowardly in the sense of, for example, they don’t rely strictly on their Raw talent to sell their shows. They’re bringing in people from the Attitude Era like Bill Goldberg. We don’t need that here on Smackdown Live because we believe in our stars.”
It is true in a sense that Smackdown Live has done a great job in terms of elevating their stars and characters. Stars such as Heath Slater, Becky Lynch, AJ Styles,etc have all benefited from the brand split.
However, on the other side, you do have stars such as Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens too who have greatly benefited from the brand split. The fact of the matter is, the show is a worked shoot show.
The way the show runs is a very provocative style and Daniel Bryan is the Number One provocateur, when he puts talents they have on as guests on the spot with hard-hitting questions, which may not be exactly comfortable.
However, talents such as Alexa Bliss, Baron Corbin as we saw today, and most famously, The Miz, have hit the ball out of the park in the show, when they were put on the spot and have furthered their character development. The show, week after week, entertains fans thoroughly for the half an hour or less that it is on on the WWE Network.
Baron Corbin cut an amazing promo on Talking Smack when he had an argument with Daniel Bryan about how long he took to reach the WWE and how long they took to reach and attain the levels of success.
Whether or not you agree with what Corbin said, there is no doubt that he absolutely made the most out of the situation. AJ Styles had a confrontation with Daniel Bryan on the show too.
