21 games into the Premier League, which means we’re just over halfway through the season which has gone amazingly quick. Here’s my Premier League team of the season so far. I’ve gone with a 4-4-2 formation.

Simon Mignolet (Liverpool)

Tough one here, but I had to go with Mignolet finally. His eye catching performances at the start of the season made a few call him the signing of the season. Certainly saved his side a couple of points on match day one when he saved Jon Walters’ penalty. Besides that he’s kept out almost everything shot at him! Liverpool have had their share of defensive injuries and aren’t always stable at the back. That’s where Mignolet has stepped up and has played an important part in keeping Liverpool in the top 4.

Seamus Coleman (Everton)

SEAMUS COLEMAN

Right back or rather right winger. What a season it has been for the Irishman. Excellent work rate with excellent finishing has made him the top scoring defender this season. Perfect for a full back. Next Gareth Bale anybody?

Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

When Mertesacker joined Arsenal two seasons back, he wasn’t the same player he currently is. They say the foreign players need time to adapt to the different conditions and that took Mertesacker almost a season. But last season was much better for him and this season is even better! He’s become a much more confident player now and has also been entrusted captaincy by Wenger a few times. He’ll be making his 100th appearance for Arsenal today.

John Terry (Chelsea)

His future looked bleak last season after Suarez’s challenge on him ruined the 2nd half of his season. But this season, Mourinho’s brought him back into the starting XI and like always, John Terry has put in a captains performance for which he credits Mourinho. One of the very few defenders in the Premier league with so many top individual honours.

Leighton Baines (Everton)

leighton baines

Easy decision really. Despite missing out on six league games this season due to injury, Baines has been a lot better than other left backs this season. His free kick taking ability makes him an even stronger contender. From season to season Baines has moved from strength to strength.

Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)

aaron ramsey

Ramsey has missed out on three games this season due to his thigh injury but definitely deserves a mention here for his super turn in form this season. The credit has to go to Wenger really. Not too long ago people used to mock Ramsey whenever he would score and those goals would coincide with celebrity deaths around the world. But those days are gone now. Ramsey already has 8 goals and 6 assists this season, already way better than his previous best return of 2 goals and 6 assists last to last season.

Yaya Toure (Manchester City)

Yaya-Toure

Just last week Yaya Toure won the African Footballer player of the year award. You can rely on him during defending. You can rely on him during attacking. You can rely on him during counter-attacking. You can rely on him for free kicks. You can rely on him for the crucial goals. Goes to show the complete player Yaya Toure is. 10 goals and 3 assists this season already. Excellent numbers for a box to box midfielder in the Premier league.Mesut Özil (Arsenal)

Mesut Özil

Özil has been such a major boost to Arsenal’s midfield. A big name was all Arsenal needed in their attack and it has been such a huge help in their title challenge. So far his time in the Premier league has got him 4 goals and 8 assists.

Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

EDEN HAZARD

Hazard has been one of the best players in the league this season. Mourinho has given him the role he gave Ronaldo at Réal Madrid and the ploy seems to have worked. Hazard has been a much better player this season under Mourinho and has the ability to run past players like they don’t exist and creates a goal out of nothing. Although he has already equalled his previous seasons goal tally of 9 goals, he’s yet to work on his assists which were 16 last season and 8 this season.

Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

Luissuarez

Suarez has been simply unstoppable this season. He missed out on the first five games of the season because of his suspension, but that suspension looks to have spurred him on. Since his return from suspension, he’s got 21 goals and 12 assists in 16 games. These include 2 hat-tricks and 5 braces. Besides, his free kicks are a dream come true him. If he keeps up this form, Liverpool will be back in the Champions League very soon.Sergio Agüero (Manchester City)

sergio aguero

He’s had his injury problems too this season. Has been out of action since a month now, but statistics still favour him. In 15 games played this season, Agüero has 13 goals and 8 assists against his name. The record gets even better when you realise he’s been substituted in more than half of those games. Many of you’ll must be wondering how come Negredo hasn’t featured instead of Agüero. Negredo has 9 goals and 4 assists against his name and these contributions have come in more game time than Agüero’s.
