WWE Hall of Famer reveals why he turned down an offer from AEW

Was this legend not impressed with AEW?
All Elite Wrestling is home to several top names

AEW has made numerous efforts to acquire some of the most renowned WWE legends over the years. However, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat recently claimed that he turned down an offer made by the promotion.

Steamboat seemingly retired in 2010, shortly after his brief return in 2009. The veteran made one last comeback during the BTW Return Of The Dragon event, where he teamed up with FTR to defeat Brock Anderson, Jay Lethal, and Nick Aldis.

During his appearance on Captain's Corner, the WWE Hall of Famer explained why he ended up turning down a backstage role in AEW despite being fond of the company.

"Believe this or not, I was already asked to come on board [with AEW] in the capacity of [a road agent]," Steamboat said. "No reflection on them, great company and everything. And don't get me wrong, the pay was going to be great, but I'm at a point in my life where I'm trying to get off the road." (H/T: Wrestling Observer)

Steamboat's son, Richie Steamboat, also followed his father's footsteps into pro wrestling, but unfortunately, his career was cut short. During an exclusive Sportskeeda interview, the Hall of Famer revealed what his son has been up to since retirement.

Ricky Steamboat had a hilarious exchange with AEW's Chris Jericho during their 2009 WWE feud

In August 2022, Steamboat briefly appeared in All Elite Wrestling as a guest timekeeper on Dynamite. Despite having a well-received feud with The Ocho in WWE years ago, the legend didn't have a face-off with Chris Jericho in the Jacksonville-based company.

During an exclusive Sportskeeda interview with Bill Apter, Steamboat recalled the fan reaction to his return at 56 years old.

"I'll never forget the chant when I was in the ring with [Chris] Jericho, and they were chanting, 'You still got it!'. Remember that? I was in the ring and I looked at Chris and asked 'What are they saying?' and he looked out and said, 'They're saying you still got it.'" [From 4:30 to 4:51]

Considering that he turned down a role in All Elite Wrestling, it's likely that The Dragon will not take up a full-time backstage position in the pro wrestling business again.
