Former WWE writer Vince Russo recently shared his thoughts regarding Tony Khan’s comments about not booking Scorpio Sky in almost a year. The former TNT Champion has been absent from AEW television since August 2024. Despite being perfectly fit and healthy, AEW Creative has not booked him in any storylines.
When asked about this in the AEW Double or Nothing 2025 post-show media scrum, Tony Khan revealed that he likes and respects Scorpio Sky. He stated that he was in talks with Sky recently, but they chose to go in a different direction as the timing wasn’t right, and would wait for the right time to bring him back.
Speaking on his show, The Brand with Al Snow and Jeff Lane, Vince Russo recently blasted Tony Khan based on his comments about Sky in the post-show. According to Russo, it is pointless to have someone under contract if you don’t have any creative plans for them.
“If you have got somebody under contract, you use them. If you are not going to use them, they should not be under contract. You got the guy under you, you’re paying the guy until the time is right? I mean, Al, am I right or wrong? This is dollars and cents,” Russo said. (From 1:37-1:57)

Scorpio Sky was last seen on AEW television in August 2024 in an episode of Rampage, where he appeared in a backstage segment with Private Party. There was reportedly a creative pitch for him to be involved in a storyline with them, but that never ended up happening. Only time will tell when fans will get to see Scorpio Sky on AEW television again.
Major WWE name commented on the possibility of joining Tony Khan’s AEW
There were heavy rumors about Shane McMahon joining AEW in a creative role in July last year. Despite carrying the McMahon name and being associated with WWE his entire life, pictures of Shane McMahon and Tony Khan having a private meeting surfaced all over the internet, taking the pro-wrestling world by storm. Recently, Shane McMahon was asked about potentially joining AEW in the future in an interview with TMZ.
Shane confirmed that he had a meeting with them in the past and wished them continued success, but stated that AEW isn’t the company that he helped build. While this does suggest he isn’t joining AEW anytime soon, he also added that one can never know what will happen in this business, leaving the doors open for a potential collaboration with Tony Khan's promotion in the future.
Shane McMahon has been away from the pro wrestling industry since leaving WWE in June 2024, and it will be interesting to see if he makes a return to the business for any promotion in the coming days.
