AEW lost a popular star to injury late last month. Now, new details have been revealed on the angle the company used to write Harley Cameron off television.

The women of All Elite Wrestling have enjoyed a bigger spotlight over the last few years, thanks in large part to the talents of Toni Storm, Mercedes Mone, and Julia Hart, among several others. It can take time for newer talent to rise through the ranks in Tony Khan's promotion, but Harley Cameron managed to build a sizeable fanbase straight away, thanks to her undeniable charisma.

Cameron quickly became a fan favorite with her backstage antics and "Mini Mone" puppet, but AEW's faithful might not see her again for a while. The Australian star reportedly suffered an injury at Double or Nothing on May 25 and was written off TV the next week on Dynamite.

According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select, it was Cameron's idea to work her injury into a storyline, and the company was happy to oblige. Many fans had wondered if she was legitimately hurt due to the fake blood used in the angle, but it appears her injury is real.

Bully Ray criticizes Harley Cameron's No DQ Match on AEW Dynamite

Despite having reportedly been injured on Double or Nothing's Zero Hour pre-show, Harley Cameron stepped back into the ring on the May 28 episode of Dynamite. She and Anna Jay took on Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford in a No Disqualification Match.

It was a brutal affair with plenty of hardcore spots. Although Cameron was busted open during the match, it was later revealed to be fake blood, which was used to write her off television due to her injury.

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray found plenty to criticize about the match, which he considered sloppy and overdone:

“After it was all over, you know, it fell short. Harley got busted open. The finish was missed completely. I’d be like, 'Girls, E for effort. Great job. Putting so much thought into it. Cut it in half. Take 50% of all the stuff that you want to do and get rid of it, because it’s too f***ing much. Nobody is going to remember it,'” Bully said on Busted Open Radio.

Harley Cameron was one of the fastest-rising stars in AEW's women's division before her injury. Only time will tell whether she's able to recapture her momentum after returning.
