7 things WWE subtly told us on RAW: 2-month undefeated streak ends, Big alliance teased between Kevin Owens and 3-time World Champion (December 9th, 2019)

Welcome to this week's edition of things WWE subtly told us on RAW. This past episode was a brilliant one, with WWE wisely deciding to get the Lana-Rusev divorce segment out of the way to avoid the pain later on.

Ad

It freed up space for the entire show, where we saw a massive heel turn, great character development, the formation of some great storylines and just a general sense of consistency that the Red brand has lacked for a while.

Paul Heyman taking over RAW has made such a huge difference to the show that it's something that we'll only notice well in retrospect. We should be grateful that he was given control over Monday Night RAW and that he's made Vince McMahon's job easier. From the look of things, Mr. McMahon is open to this new direction and this involves fresh characters, fresh faces and so much more. Here's what WWE subtly told us on RAW this week.

#7 Andrade's winning streak ends, a push may not be done

The moment before the collapse

Andrade has been one of the more promising stars of Monday Night RAW ever since the draft. It was carefully pointed out that since the WWE Draft in October 2019, Andrade had picked up a winning streak that included some big names.

Ad

He got into a backstage scuffle with fellow-Mexican Humberto Carrillo, a man who was rumored to have lost his push already, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Instead, we saw Carrillo snap Andrade's win streak after a moment of miscommunication between Andrade and Zelina Vega that backfired. Post-match, Andrade and Vega showed the first cracks in their business relationship and this is a big indicator that Carrillo hasn't lost his push.

We could see a rematch between them very soon.

#6 Kevin Owens and a future alliance

This went under the radar
Ad

With everything that's happened with Kevin Owens tonight (and his recurring segments through the show), a moment that went well under the radar was the interaction between him and United States Champion Rey Mysterio.

In the early part of the show, Owens was looking for AoP and crossed paths with Mysterio and an alliance was teased between them. Mysterio offered to help Owens but the former Universal Champion refused, not wanting the legend to get involved in his business. Mysterio ended up offering him a little assistance in the form of a steel rod, something that Owens held throughout the night until the backstage segment with the car and the turn.

It was a nice little segment between two babyfaces and it's possible that somewhere down the line, we could see these two interact again and team together. It would certainly be a dream pairing and it appears to be the first time that the two men have ever crossed paths. However, it won't be the last.

#5 Multiple possibilities with Rusev vs Bobby Lashley

Rusev stands tall!
Ad

It appears as though we're finally coming to the conclusion of this storyline and fans couldn't be more excited about it. Excited, of course, because it's finally going to end, or so it appears. WWE was wise to get the divorce court segment out of the way, knowing well that it would be the most painful one to watch in the night (and it was, in what was otherwise an incredible episode).

Lana did most of the talking and Rusev got over as a babyface wearing a Donald Duck shirt. He also challenged Bobby Lashley to a match at TLC and it's official. There are a few major possibilities that can happen with the match.

The obvious and right choice, of course, would be for Rusev to pick up the big babyface win in the payoff of the storyline. However, there's also a possibility of Lashley winning and the storyline extending longer, especially since Rusev stood tall at the end.

With that said, Lashley has supposedly suffered an arm injury recently and could be written out of the storyline with a big beatdown from Rusev. There are multiple possibilities at this point!

#4 A Tag Team at long last!

A forced friendship

In the early half of the show, Charlotte Flair approached RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch and told her straight-up that she didn't like her. Lynch responded saying that the feeling was mutual and Flair put her ego aside to ask the Champion for her help to face The Kabuki Warriors and become "Becky 2 belts" again.

Lynch declined, choosing to put her ego in front and facing The Kabuki Warriors to a handicap match. Predictably, it didn't work out for her just as it didn't last week with Charlotte. This ended with a disqualification but Asuka and Kairi Sane still ended up putting The Man through a table.

Afterward, Flair confronted Lynch and the two agreed to an alliance. Flair was then beaten down by Asuka and Kairi Sane and the two Japanese superstars challenged the two to a Tag Team title match at TLC - with a TLC stipulation.

In our opinion, this should be the main event of the PPV as we expect it to be the best match. However, it's an alliance at long last and we couldn't be happier.

#3 Kevin Owens is the main character of the story, not Seth Rollins

The big shock
Ad

What's clear in this storyline between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins is that Owens has replaced the former two-time Universal Champion as the face of Monday Night RAW. It appears as though he's finally found his momentum as a babyface again after having a very mixed bag of a year in 2019.

He had two face turns this year alone and one of the crowning achievements of his year was getting Shane McMahon fired from SmackDown and sending him away on the SmackDown on FOX premiere this past October.

He hasn't won any titles but he's now in the hottest feud in the company and we couldn't be happier for him. Even though this storyline is vital in the character development of Rollins, it's clear that this is more to push Owens as a babyface and he may very well have taken Rollins' top babyface spot.

We couldn't think of a better option to take that spot at the moment and it's crazy to think that Owens was a last-minute swap and was originally planned to be on SmackDown post-Draft.

#2 A confusing ending with time running out

What on earth happened?
Ad

We saw a rematch of Rey Mysterio vs AJ Styles for the United States Championship. Admittedly, it wasn't as good as their first meeting a few weeks ago, but it was still a fun match regardless.

It had a lot of nice drama to it and it looked like AJ Styles was going to win the title after hitting a Styles Clash on the champion. However, Randy Orton appeared in the ring, made his presence known to Styles and simply slithered away without hitting his signature RKO.

This allowed Mysterio to land the small package and pick up the win and weirdly enough, the feed was cut off right then and there. What was clear from this abrupt ending was that there was a botch and they messed up a bit with the timing, not allowing Mysterio to celebrate at the end.

Instead, we got a brief moment of Styles looking at Orton and that was it. We hope there's no heat with the miscue of the situation as these things tend to happen from time to time.

#1 The long-overdue heel turn

Seth Rollins with AoP
Ad

We admit that this isn't something that WWE subtly told us, but we feel that this is something that we simply can't have this article without talking about. Seth Rollins' long overdue heel turn has finally happened and we couldn't be more excited about it.

The seeds were planted a few weeks ago in the Town Hall meeting and there were rumors that there was a lot of uncertainty over the direction of Rollins' character. Some reports were stating that his heel turn would be similar to Bret Hart in 1997 (without the nationality aspect of it), while some stated that he would be on the line and pushed as a 'tweener.

However, this wasn't a 'tweener moment - it was a full-fledged heel turn. Perhaps we could have seen it coming from the segment where Rollins avoided a confrontation with AoP like a coward and walked out and the moment Owens opened the car door backstage, things took a whole new turn.

Ad

Rollins is officially a heel and we predict that he's going to prove why he's still among the best in the world. Expect some great storytelling in the coming weeks and months.
