Recap of Blue Exorcist season 3 episode 2

Yukio Okumura was summoned to the True Cross Order to give a detailed report on his encounter with Saburota Todo and sign a blood contract. The head of the organization asked the members present to deal with the demon-eaters and learn more about their kind.

After exiting the meeting, Yukio pondered about his identity as Rin Okumura's twin brother, and his affiliation with Satan, especially because he shared the blue flames of Satan in his eyes. Later, the episode saw him go to Shiemi's place and help her with her studies.

A flashback revealed his connections to Mephisto, and how he became his and Rin's guardian. Yukio knew that Mephisto was aware of him having Satan's eyes, but he was also angry at him for not clearly explaining everything.

Following this, the episode shifted to the True Cross Academy's cram school, where Yukio assigned Rin and his friends a new mission. The specifics of the mission compelled Shiemi and Izumo to fight on the frontline.

Izumo couldn't come to terms with Shiemi helping her out on a previous occasion. Her inability to say a "Thank you" further infuriated her. Nevertheless, she somehow repaid her while on the mission by saving her from Mayuko.

Elsewhere in Russia, Lewin Light, Arthur A. Angel, and others infiltrated an abandoned particle acceleration research institute to look for demons. Shockingly, they discovered a man-made Gehenna gate, which was expanding at an alarming rate.

As such, Mephisto Pheles cast a barrier to stop the time inside the institute and prevent the gate from further expanding. Lewin Light deduced that opening a Gehenna gate could only be the work of an organization known as the Illuminati.

Following this, the episode saw Saburota Todo meet a man lying on his bed. He was pronounced as the leader, who helped in opening the Gehenna gate and set things into motion.

The reason behind the increasing frequency of demon sightings was finally revealed in the previous episode, with the revelation of Gehenna Gate's opening. Hence, Blue Exorcist season 3 episode 3 will likely reveal more about the Illuminati's plans and the Angelic Legion's strategy of retaliation.

Besides, Rin Okumura and his friends are expected to go through more of their extracurricular activities involving demon exorcism. Given that the anime isn't following the manga's actual timelines, fans can expect to witness Rin and his group confront "the lady in white shroud" in Blue Exorcist season 3 episode 3.
