Today's injury updates revolve around a number of veteran pitchers who are looking to make their way back to their respective rotations. As the MLB calendar turned to August, teams have been receiving generally positive news regarding some of their sidelined pitchers. Here's a closer look at some of the most notable injury updates from across the league.
MLB Injury Updates for August 2
Lance Lynn

St. Louis Cardinals manager Oli Marmol provided a positive injury update on veteran pitcher Lance Lynn. The 37-year-old was placed on the 15-day IL with right knee inflammation, however, the tests that he underwent revealed no structural damage. Although Lynn could be sidelined for a few weeks, the fact that he avoided a catastrophic injury is massive for St. Louis.
"Per Oli Marmol; the imaging done on Lance Lynn’s inflamed right knee showed no structural damage. Lance got an injection to help with the inflammation and they’ll let it sit for a couple days. #STLCards" - @TheCatOnBallyTV
Max Fried
The Atlanta Braves could have one of their top pitchers return to the lineup as early as Sunday. According to MLB insider Grant McAuley, star pitcher Max Fried is eligible to be activated from the IL on Friday and is viewed as an option to start Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins. Fried has missed the last two weeks with left forearm neuritis.
Michael King
The San Diego Padres received a positive injury update in regards to star pitcher Michael King. The 29-year-old was struck in the calf with a comebacker during the team's matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. While King is listed as day-to-day, it appears that he has avoided any serious injury. "He needs a couple extra days," Padres manager Mike Shildt said of King's calf soreness.
Parker Meadows
The Detroit Tigers could soon receive some much-needed help in their struggling lineup. Young outfielder Parker Meadows has been working his way back to the MLB after sustaining a strained right hamstring. Meadows could return to the lineup this weekend and should be an instant boost to a squad that ranks in the bottom half of the league in runs scored.
