MLB insider thinks the Toronto Blue Jays are in prime position to make a run at the AL East crown right now: "They have a window here"

The Toronto Blue Jays are in a title window

The Toronto Blue Jays are headed for a tough run in free agency in a few years. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette hit the open market at the same time and will both cost quite a lot of money. When that happens, it might be hard for the Blue Jays to keep one or both of them.

Until that happens, one MLB analyst believes the Blue Jays are in prime position to contend and could really make a run for something.

Eduardo Perez said:

"You avoid arbitration altogether. You still have to deal with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who stands to make $14.5 million this year... Next year will go to arbitration unless something is done, the year after as well and then becomes a free agent the same year as Bo Bichette does."

While that timing might be scary for the future of their franchise, it means that they are in a unique and good spot right now:

"They have an opportunity, they have a window here to be able to have Chris Bassitt until 2025. Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., those are the big names with some others like Cavan Biggio. Those guys are the big names in those years and I think that's the window. It's a pretty good one with Bo Bichette and Vladdy in the same room."

For now, the Blue Jays are in a good position with contracts, so they very well may want to go after it. That won't be true when Bichette and Guerrero Jr. need extensions.

Will the Toronto Blue Jays win the AL East in 2023?

The Toronto Blue Jays have had a very interesting off-season. They've added pieces, but they've also shipped off key contributors. Both Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Teoscar Hernandez are gone.

They've added players like Chris Bassitt and Kevin Kiermaier, but those aren't going to be enough to overtake the New York Yankees, who had a very strong off-season.

Still, with Bichette and Guerrero in town, it's impossible to count this team out. They will be a tough out in the postseason next year regardless of whether they win the division or not.
