The Atlanta Braves have brought a familiar face back to the fold in Charlie Culberson, a promising prospect and fan favorite. Culberson was signed to a minor league contract for 2023, but is capable of contributing to the major league roster. The Braves' ability to keep their minor league team flush with talent is a sign of organizational strength.

Culberson has a career batting average of .248 and has 10 years of MLB experience. Having a player like that waiting in the wings in case he is needed is the ideal depth situation for the Braves.

Daniel O'Brien of The Athletic broke the news that Culberson was making his triumphant return via Twitter.

Culberson has experience playing virtually every infield position, including shortstop. The shortstop position has been a big question mark for the Atlanta Braves, who went with Orlando Arcia for opening day. This was a surprising selection for many who expected them to go with a younger player. If Arcia doesn't work out the way they hope, Culberson may be called upon to hold the spot down.

Charlie Culberson became a fan favorite in part due to his similarities with Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson. The two may not play similarly, but they sure do look similar. With Swanson gone, Culberson certainly has a claim to having the best hair on the team.

Having a veteran presence on a minor league team could go a long way towards helping develop their young talent. The Atlanta Braves have proven to have one of the best farm systems in MLB today, so their methods are easy to respect. If Culberson ends up playing a significant amount of time at a high level this season, this will be seen as yet another brilliant move.

Atlanta Braves fans are thrilled to have Charlie Culberson back with the franchise and hope he can make big contributions this season.

Can the Atlanta Braves maintain their elite farm system while trying to win now?

So often, teams will trade assets and building blocks for the future in exchange for the ability to win now. The San Diego Padres recently did just that to acquire superstar Juan Soto. Thus far, the Braves haven't had to resort to that strategy. They are bona fide World Series contenders in 2023 while still being set up for the next decade and beyond.

The Braves are truly in a class of their own in terms of organizational excellence.
