Dylan Cease has been impressive for the San Deigo Padres this season. He has conceded eight runs so far, of which five earned in 22.2 innings during four starts. He signed a $8 million contract with the Chicago White Sox in January, avoiding arbitration. However, last month, Cease got traded to San Deigo in exchange for Drew Thorpe, Samuel Zavala, Jairo Iriarte and Steven Wilson in the mid-spring training season. The 28-year-old has wowed fans and experts alike with his performances, including the Padres manager, Mike Shildt.“You're talking about a guy that just devours innings and takes the ball. So he's just been tremendous,” Shildt said, praising Cease on MLB Network Radio. “His Slider’s nasty. His fastball got such life on it. And when he’s commanding and being consistent with pitching his own, it’s special.”Shildt believes Cease is becoming a core member of the Padres rotation and will win games for them this season:“He’s established another anchor in our rotation that we know we can run out there and definitely give us more than a chance to win. ”Cease won in his last two starts, one against the Chicago Cubs and the other against the Milwaukee Brewers. He earned only one run in both games while pitching for 12.0 innings. He’s expected to have his fifth start against the Colorado Rookies on Monday at Coors Field. The Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. is impressed with Dylan CeaseThe San Deigo Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. dubbed Dylan Cease a “star” following his great outing against the Brewers.“The guy’s a star. He’s an ace. He showed it today,” Tatis Jr. said, via MLB.com. “Hopefully, he can keep it that way for the rest of the season.”Cease is trying to settle in his new clubhouse.“The biggest adjustment is getting used to everybody in the clubhouse. Other than that, baseball is baseball,” said Cease. “They give me the scouting reports and we work on stuff and at the end of the day, we all just want to win. We’ve got that common goal so it’s easy to assimilate.”Nonetheless, he has become a great deal for the Padres this season. As they chase the Los Angeles Dodgers (13-11) for the division top spot with a 12-12 record, Cease will be one of the frontrunners in their campaign. The Padres were on a series-winning streak before facing the Toronto Blue Jays last week. They’ll hope to rebound in their next four-game away series against the Colorado Rookies starting Monday.
