The Atlanta Braves have been aggresively cutting costs in the offseason. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal believes that they are trying to make room to replace to of their key players.

Outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. and pitcher Spencer Strider saw their 2024 seasons end early due to injuries and aren't sure when they will return to action. On Foul Territory, Rosenthal said that Atlanta is cutting costs to find replacements for Acuna and Strider to start the season:

"You see the moves they've made so far, they've all been cost-cutting moves. The reason why they've had to be this aggressive in reducing payroll thus far is because Acuna and Strider will not be ready for the start of the season."
"They need a starting pitcher to replace Strider, at least temporarily, an out fielder to replace Acuna, at least temporarily."

Ronald Acuna Jr. injured his knee in May this year, which turned out to be an ACL injury and ended his season. Meanwhilel Spencer Strider injured his elbow in only his second start of the season, and the UCL injury ended his season as well.

After a disappointing end to their season, the Atlanta Braves have been busy cutting costs over the first few weeks of the offseason. They traded outfielder Jorge Soler to the Angels to offload the remaining two years of his $26 million contract. They also non-tendered three players and restructed several contracts.

Boston Red Sox reportedly interested in former Atlanta Braves ace Max Fried

After years in the majors with the Atlanta Braves, starting pitcher Max Fried declined their qualifying offer at the end of the season and became a free agent.

After the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Blake Snell this week, the Boston Red Sox are turning their attention to Fried, according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale.

While the Red Sox are in pursuit of several big names in the market, it remains to be seen if they can land Fried, who will attract interest from other teams as well. As for the Braves, they have been more focused on internal decisions so far, but expect them to start making moves outside the roster soon.
