Infielder Matt Carpenter signed with the San Diego Padres because he believes in the team. The Padres have never won a World Series title in their 53 year existence but there is a feeling of optimism around the clubhouse this season.

The Padres will look to improve on their 89-73 finish last season. Carpenter, who is entering his thirteenth season in the majors, was full of praise for his teammates:

"You could make a case all four of these guys could win MVP."

Per a recent article in the New York Post by Jon Heyman, Carpenter is excited about stepping onto the field with some of the game's greats.

"Walking into this clubhouse, it feels like walking into an All-Star Game," added Carpenter.

The "four guys" Carpenter is referring to are All-Stars Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts and Juan Soto.

Carpenter recently signed a one-year deal with the Padres and is aiming to win his first ever World Series title. He will be joined by MLB veterans Cole Hamels and Nelson Cruz, who will add some much-needed experience and depth to the lineup.

The San Diego Padres boast one of the most potent offensive lineups in MLB

Ownership has invested heavily in the roster and the club boasts one of the most talented offenses in the league.

Manny Machado was recently extended to a massive 11-year, $350 million contract. The club traded some valuable pieces to the Washington Nationals to bring Juan Soto over. Fernando Tatis is currently on 14-year, 340 million deal.

During the offseason, the Padres also signed former Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts to a 11-year, $280 million contract. Bogaerts is a four-time All-Star and a five-time Silver Slugger Award winner. He was a member of the Red Sox team that won two World Series titles (2103, 2018).

If the San Diego Padres can remain healthy, the sky is the limit. Manager Bob Melvin will rely on the offense to carry them on another deep playoff run in 2023.
