San Diego Padres owner Peter Seidler has made it a habit to spend money on his team. He has improved the roster this offseason and ensured a few star players aren't going anywhere else.

Where did the Padres owner get his money? Seidler initially founded a private equity firm called Seidler Equity Partners in California.

Naturally, it didn't begin as a global powerhouse, but the firm now holds more than $3 billion in assets worldwide. It has expanded globally since then, too.

Prior to that, Siedler earned a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the University of California.

His net worth is estimated to be about $3 billion, which is how he's able to spend so much on his baseball team. They also improve his net worth by bringing in a lot of revenue for him.

How much has the Padres owner spent this season?

Padres owner Peter Seidler has spent a ton of money this offseason. San Diego already had a pretty sizeable payroll before they added Xander Bogaerts and extended Manny Machado.

All told, the owner has spent about $251 million on his team this season. With various contracts going out to star players, the Padres have a payroll that's only smaller than those of the New York teams.

Machado is earning $31.2 million from Seidler this year. Bogaerts gets $25.45 million and Yu Darvish earns $25.

Next season, this could be an even higher number and Seidler could be spending even more. If the Padres extend Juan Soto, he'll easily be making $35 million or more for a season.

Additionally, Fernando Tatis Jr.'s contract won't be adjusted next season. Right now, because of the suspension and the way his contract is set up, his contract isn't normal. In 2024, he'll make $11 million and then $20 million in 2025.

The Padres boss clearly isn't afraid to spend money. San Diego isn't considered one of the biggest markets in baseball either, but he is helping to redefine how MLB spending works. Will it be enough to finally capture a World Series title?
