Geno Auriemma, born on March 23, 1954, is an American basketball coach who is the winningest coach in Division I college basketball history with 1,247 victories to his name. The nine-time AP Coach of the Year has led the UConn Huskies to 11 NCAA Championships and 30 conference championships and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

Geno Auriemma Coaching History

Auriemma's coaching journey began at Bishop McDevitt High School, where he spent two years before moving to collegiate ranks with Saint Joseph’s in 1978. His head coaching journey at Connecticut began in 1985 after spending four seasons as an assistant coach with the Virginia Cavaliers women’s basketball team. For the next 40 years, Auriemma has transformed the program into a national power and led the Huskies to 11 national titles.

Under Auriemma, the program has won 11 NCAA Championships, becoming the most successful coach in NCAA Division I women’s college basketball. In November 2024, he broke the NCAA Division I record after getting his 1,217th win for the Huskies.
