Mark Sears is a point guard for the Alabama Crimson Tide, playing his fifth and final season of college basketball. Mark Sears was a consensus All-American in 2023–24 and became the first Division I player to post 795 points, 150 rebounds, 145 assists, and 95 three-pointers since Reggie King in 1978–79. He was ranked by ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo as the 90th overall prospect in the 2024 NBA Draft. However, he withdrew from the draft and stayed in Alabama, using his final year of college eligibility.

After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Ohio State University as a three-star recruit. He was selected for both the first-team All-MAC and the MAC All-Freshman Team honors. In 2022, he entered the NCAA transfer portal and turned down offers from Florida, Memphis, Cincinnati, LSU, and Texas to enroll at the University of Alabama. In five seasons of college basketball, Sears has averaged 16.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 162 career games (via ESPN).
