Coach Jai Lucas and the Miami Hurricanes welcomed the news set of freshmen to the program as the University’s basketball social media account shared snaps of their arrival. The Miami basketball program took a significant step toward the start of the new season this week as Lucas and his staff officially welcomed their newest group of highly touted freshmen to campus.
On Tuesday, Canes Hoops shared an Instagram carousel of the arrivals of standout recruits, which included Shelton Henderson, Dante Allen and Jordyn Kee. The arrivals were all smiles as the post showed Jai Lucas embracing Kee in the hallway after he arrived in the campus residence.
“New Canes on campus 👀🔥🙌,” the caption read.
One of the heartwarming moments showed Allen dapping up Kee. Dante Allen was seen in one photo standing in his new dorm room, smiling for the camera while holding up the Miami “U” hand sign. Another clip featured Kee, Allen and Henderson moving their suitcases into the campus residence as Kee expressed his thoughts ahead of his 2025-26 freshman season.
“What’s up Cane fans,” Kee said. “Just touched down on campus and ready to work, let’s do it.”
Jai Lucas announced the signing of Jordyn Kee on May 1 after the 6-foot-3 guard spent his freshman year at the University of Georgia program. Kee redshirted to preserve his eligibility. Shelton Henderson was ranked No. 30 in ESPN’s 100 for the class of 2025 and announced his commitment to Miami on Apr. 21.
Another freshman, Dante Allen, was announced on Apr. 18 after playing for two seasons at Rivera Prep in Miami before transferring to Monteverde Academy.
Jai Lucas adds veteran coach Russell Springmann to Miami staff
The Miami Hurricanes basketball program continued to strengthen under coach Jai Lucas, after the announcement of the addition of Russell Springmann on May 21 as the assistant coach. Springmann brings a wealth of experience with over two decades of coaching to Miami.
Speaking about Springmann’s arrival, Lucas expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have his experience as part of his coaching staff.
“I’ve been fortunate to not only play for Russell but also work alongside him during our time at Texas,” Lucas said. “He is an exceptional basketball coach and an even better person. His wisdom and 20-plus years of basketball experience will help create the culture we want here at The U.”
Springmann’s coaching journey began as a graduate assistant at Florida under Billy Donovan from 1996 to 1998. The bulk of Springmann's career was spent at Texas under Rick Barnes. During his 14 years in Austin (2001-2015), Springmann helped guide the Longhorns to a 334-149 record, 13 NCAA Tournament appearances and five Sweet 16 appearances.
He played a key role in securing 14 McDonald’s All-Americans, including two National Players of the Year, T.J. Ford (2003) and Kevin Durant (2007). Springmann coached or developed 15 NBA draft picks, a list that includes Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge and Tristan Thompson.
After his tenure at Texas, Springmann served as a scout for the Oklahoma City Thunder (2017-2018) before returning to the college game as an assistant at San Diego for two seasons. In 2018, he joined Oral Roberts University, initially as an assistant coach before being promoted to coach in 2023.
