Harsha Bhogle has been the most prominent Indian cricket commentator for several years. He started commentating at the age of 19 with All India radio, in Hyderabad and his passion for the sport is unparalleled. Travelling around the world with the cricket team he has witnessed many memorable victories of Indian cricket.
While he is always doing his job with precision, there is also a “funny and witty” side of him which pops up sometimes.
Let us have a look at 5 instances where Harsha Bhogle has owned his fellow commentators:
1) Harsha Bhogle’s reply to English great Geoffrey Boycott
Sachin Tendulkar is possibly the greatest Indian to have played the game of cricket but even the great one isn’t featured on the honour board at Lord’s.
When the master blaster was featuring in his last innings at Lord’s, Boycott did ask the Indian commentator what he thought about Sachin not achieving this feat. Bhogle had an incredible response to the fact that Sachin missed out on the honours board at the ground and probably stunned Boycott.
2) Harsha Bhogle on Sourav Ganguly’s praise
Sourav Ganguly isn’t a man who minces his words and while many have been at the receiving end of a Ganguly lash, the Indian commentator was praised by the former India captain. Bhogle though would not miss a beat and he too came back with an incredible response regarding the passion that Ganguly possessed for the game.
This witty exchange of words took place during the Tri-series involving Australia, England and India back in 2015, and we all remember that great Natwest final where India defeated England and Dada celebrated with his shirt off.
3) Nasser Hussain gets a clever reply for Harsha Bhogle
lndia does not have the greatest of records when it comes to participating in the football World Cup, something that Nasser Hussain was not going to let go easily. The former England captain brought up the World Cup and asked Bhogle when India would play in the grandest football tournament.
While many would have walked away or replied meekly, Bhogle took a pop at England’s performance at the 2014 tournament where they bowed out in the group stages.
4) Harsha Bhogle gives a hilarious reply to Ian Chappell
Narendra Hirwani might be known for his incredible bowling debut but he certainly was not a good batsman. During a match when India lost its 9th wicket and a nervous Hirwani came out to bat, Aussie legend Ian Chappell asked Bhogle if the spinner could score for the side.
The Indian commentator gave a fantastic reply which spoke volumes about the batting ability that Hirwani did not possess and certainly would have let out a few laughs in the commentary box.
5) Harsha’s mind-blowing reply to Wasim Akram’s quotes
Wasim Akram was probably one of the best fast bowlers the world has ever seen and the former Pakistani pacer was lamenting about the condition of fast bowling in his country. Wahab Riaz certainly is a talented bowler but the fact that he was not chosen certainly irked the legendary pacer.
India too didn’t have the greatest of fast bowlers at a certain point of time and Bhogle was more than happy to suggest that Riaz should play for the Indian team. This certainly would have cooled relations between the two countries, at least it ensured there were a few laughs in the commentary box.
