India take on Sri Lanka in Game No. 7 of the Asia Cup T20 2016, with the stakes entirely different for the two participating teams.

While India have won their past two games against Bangladesh and Pakistan, it has been a mixed bag for Sri Lanka, as they won their tournament opener against UAE but lost against Bangladesh on Sunday.

India would look to win the game and seal their spot in the final of the tournament while Sri Lanka would look to keep their hopes alive for the final by registering their second win in three matches with one more to play.

Team News

India

Although India have won both of their previous matches, they haven’t looked invincible by any stretches of the imagination. They have had problems at the top of the batting order, that has failed to counter the moving ball, and adjust to the conditions that have been on offer.

However, to India’s delight, the grass seems to have disappeared completely over the past two games, and batting has become relatively easier. Yet, something that shouldn’t delight them is the injury to their opening batsman Rohit Sharma.

Post getting hit by a swinging Mohammad Amir delivery on the toe in the previous game, Rohit, it has been reported, has been suffering from a broken toe, and it is unclear whether he will take part in the game.

Also, Shikhar Dhawan suffered a niggle in the last game, and although he was seen practicing in the nets, a confirmation on his participation hasn't come yet.

In case both the regular openers do not play tomorrow, Parthiv Patel, who was called up as a back-up wicket-keeper keeping in mind MS Dhoni's back issues, could get a chance.

Bowling and fielding have been India’s strengths, with the opening duo of Ashish Nehra and Jasprit Bumrah being mighty effective in the powerplay overs, and Ravindra Jadeja doing the job with his left arm spin.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, apart from the shock defeat against Bangladesh, have had their own issues to deal with. Lasith Malinga didn’t play in the last game due to an injury and is uncertain for this game as well.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sri Lanka’s most experienced batsman in the squad, hasn’t been in the best of forms and hasn’t been able to give the team proper starts partnering with Dinesh Chandimal.

Sri Lanka have also been guilty of losing too many wickets inside the first 6 overs, and stand-in captain Angelo Mathews’ innings against Bangladesh, wherein he didn’t look to be in any sort of touch has created further questions.

The bowling has been good so far, with Dushmantha Chameera, Rangana Herath, and the skipper Mathews bowling well in the last game. Nuwan Kulasekara was, however, expensive.

India vs Sri Lanka Teams (Predicted XI)

India XI

Rohit Sharma/Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan/Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (c, wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah.

Sri Lanka XI

Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dinesh Chandimal (wk), Shehan Jayasuriya, Angelo Mathews (c), Chamara Kapugedera, Milinda Siriwardana, Dasun Shanaka, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dushmantha Chameera, Thisara Perera/ Lasith Malinga.

India vs Sri Lanka Pitch & Conditions

As it has been the tune of the tournament so far, getting runs on the Mirpur pitch- whether with grass or without it- isn’t easy to score runs on. Monday’s game between Pakistan and UAE saw further depletion of the grass cover that was omnipresent during the first three games of the tournament.

The pitch has bounce and offers movement off it, and hence, batting in the powerplay would be crucial for both the teams. The team that does well in the powerplay without losing too many wickets would have the upper hand in the game.

Fast bowlers from both sides would relish bowling on that surface and the likes of Nehra, Bumrah, Chameera and Kulasekara would look for early breakthroughs.
