Australia:

1. Aaron Finch – 3/10

Aaron Finch was playing his first Test match in Australia and he didn’t really do much in this Test. In both the innings, he got out pretty early and in the second innings, he didn’t take a review when he should have. He even dropped a few tough chances at leg-slip and FSL.

2. Marcus Harris – 5/10

Marcus Harris looked solid in both the innings before getting out. He would be disappointed that he didn’t convert at least one start into a substantial score.

3. Usman Khawaja – 4/10

Usman Khawaja was supposed to be Australia’s leading batsman in this weak batting line-up but he didn’t look like one. He got out cheaply in both the innings and his shot selection in the second innings was questionable. But the catch to get rid of Kohli in the first innings was fantastic.

4. Shaun Marsh – 6.5/10

Marsh played a poor shot in the first innings to get out for a single digit score but he was batting beautifully in the second before getting a beauty from Bumrah. After a lot of single-digit scores, the 60 in the second innings will give him confidence for the next matches.

5. Peter Handscomb – 4/10

Handscomb too would be disappointed with himself about not converting starts into big scores. He was looking good in the first innings but was dismissed on 34.

6. Travis Head – 7/10

It was because of Travis Head that Australia got close to the Indian total in the first innings. He was looking solid in the second innings but got a really good bouncer from Ishant Sharma to get dismissed.

7. Tim Paine – 6/10

Paine got out pretty early in the first innings but looked good in the second as he scored crucial 41 runs. The runs will be important as he didn’t have many runs under his belt. He was good with the gloves and with his captaincy as well.

8. Pat Cummins – 7/10

Pat Cummins was good on the first day as he took the most important wicket of Virat Kohli. He even ran Pujara out towards the end of the first day’s play. He wasn’t at his best in the second innings as he got hammered a bit and couldn’t fetch any wickets. He showed some application and hung in there with the bat in both the innings.

9. Mitchell Starc – 8/10

Mitchell Starc bowled well in this Test. He might have looked a bit off the line in the second innings but still got 3 wickets. He took 5 wickets in all and scored some runs towards in both the innings.

10. Josh Hazlewood – 7/10

Josh Hazlewood did what was expected of him. He kept it tight at one end and took 4 wickets in the game. He was really good on the first day as he took the wickets of Rahul and Rahane.

11. Nathan Lyon – 8.5/10

Nathan Lyon was fabulous with the ball in hand. He took 6 wickets in the second innings which included the whole of India’s middle order. He had a good game with the bat as well. He scored 24* in the first innings and brought Australia close in the second innings by an unbeaten 38.
