England spinner Jack Leach hospitalised with bout of gastroenteritis

England spinner Jack Leach has been hospitalised after suffering from gastroenteritis. Leach, who was left out of the England side for the second Test against New Zealand in favour of an extra seamer, began feeling the symptoms of the illness during the first session of play on day 2.

The 28-year-old was then admitted to the hospital where he will be monitored overnight.

Gastroenteritis is a stomach bug that can induce vomiting and diarrhea, and Leach's condition could be impacted by the fact that he was previously diagnosed with Crohn's disease, an inflammatory bowel disorder, which he has had to battle with his entire career.

England pacer Stuart Broad expressed his dismay at the developments, but remains confident that England's medical staff are more than equipped to handle the situation.

"It's quite worrying news but we've got great medical staff to look after him."

Leach has had a rather forgettable tour of New Zealand thus far. He picked up just two wickets in the first Test, finishing with match figures of 2-153 as England slipped to a humiliating innings-and-65-run defeat.

The visitors have fared no better in the second Test at Hamilton, as they trail by 336 runs at Stumps on Day 2.
