Recently concluded ENG-NZL series saw many 300 plus totals

In the second One Day International (ODI) between the recently concluded Natwest ODI Series between England and New Zealand, England scored 365 for nine in 46 overs with no batsman scoring a century.

The highest score in the inning was by skipper Eoin Morgan (88). England were chasing New Zealand’s total of 398/5 and with rain interrupting, they lost the match by 13 runs by the Duckworth-Lewis method.

England’s 365/9 is the second highest ODI total without a century. The highest total, in this case, is South Africa’s 392/6 against Pakistan at Centurion in 2006/07 with the highest score being 88* by Jacques Kallis. There have been five more totals in excess of 350 in which no batsman got to three figure mark. They are listed below.

England has scored 350+ four times in ODIs and two of those no batsmen scored a century. Their first 350+ total which was 363/7 against Pakistan in 1992 had Robin Smith as the highest scorer with 77 runs.

No surprises that most of the six of the seven totals have come in the last 10 years.

England also has the record for the highest ODI total without an individual 50+ score. Let’s also list the highest ODI totals with no individual 50+ score.

All the above instances happened after 2000.

The lowest total (no qualification) to include a century is England’s 159/3 against New Zealand at Swansea in 1973 where Dennis Amiss scored 100 in 121 balls. England were chasing 159 and got there quite easily.
