India vs Bangladesh 2017 Test: Rating the Indian cricketers

Not a Test to remember for the opener

Umesh Yadav – 7.5

After playing and missing on a repeated basis, Shakib rated Umesh Yadav’s spell on the third day morning as the best he faced in his Test career. The Vidarbha speedster operated with pace and menace to finish the first innings as the pick of India’s bowlers.

Ajinkya Rahane – 7.5

It’s never easy getting injured and watching your replacement score a triple century. With the team management backing his consistency over the last few seasons, Rahane slotted back into the playing eleven which meant Karun Nair had to miss out. The Mumbaikar scored a fluent 82 in the first innings and more importantly reiterated his stature as India’s best current close-in catcher.

Ishant Sharma – 7.5

The most experienced member of the bowling attack sent down 20 overs in the first innings and contributed with the wicket of Mahmudullah. However, the scorecard will not reveal the gruelling short-ball working over that Ishant gave to Mushfiqur Rahim. His aggressive two-wicket burst on the final day helped India pierce the dagger into Bangladesh’s lower-order. He could have had a couple more if not for an umpiring error and Vijay’s shoddy slip-catching.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 6.5

Coming into this game, the spin-pace combination would have been the major selection conundrum for India. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was preferred ahead of the third spinner. Though the pitch did not provide a lot of assistance for him, he kept plugging away in the right channel. The delivery to get rid of Mehedi Hasan in the first-innings displayed his improved skill set.

KL Rahul – 2

Despite getting first use of what would be a batting-friendly surface, Rahul’s lazy footwork got the better of him even before the opening over could be completed. He did not do much in the second innings either and perished to Taskin Ahmed once again.
