CSK's Devon Conway ruled out of 2024 IPL, Richard Gleeson announced as his replacement

In a major blow to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), opener Devon Conway has been ruled out of the entire 2024 IPL due to a left thumb injury and will be replaced by the English right-arm fast-medium bowler Richard Gleeson. The Kiwi batter was last seen in action during the T20I against Australia in Auckland on February 23 this year.

The flamboyant southpaw, who joined the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2022 season, was in splendid form for the Men in Yellow last year, amassing 672 runs at a strike rate of 139.71. It included six half-centuries, with his highest score of 92* coming up against Punjab Kings. Conway was the third-highest run-getter of the 2023 IPL overall and also the top run-scorer for Chennai.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Richard Gleeson, who has been playing T20 cricket for several teams across various leagues, has so far picked up 101 wickets in 90 T20 matches at an economy of 8.18, with his best figures being 5/33. In the six matches he has played so far for England, Gleeson has nine wickets to his name. In addition to it, he has taken 143 First class and 28 List A wickets.

CSK have made a fantastic start to 2024 IPL

With four wins out of the six matches they have played so far, the Chennai Super Kings are placed third in the ongoing 2024 IPL points table. The two defeats they suffered came during the away fixtures against the Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

At Chepauk though, the five-time winners are unbeaten, proving their full dominance as they have done in the previous editions. Next up, they will be facing the Lucknow Super Giants in both away (April 19) and home (April 23) fixtures before hosting Pat Cummins' men on Sunday, April 28.
