IPL 2024 CSK Squad

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lifted the IPL 2023 crown and retained most of their players. They needed just six slots to fill and had a purse remaining of ₹31.40 crore left with them.

CSK lifted their fifth IPL title by beating Gujarat Titans (GT) in a thrilling IPL 2023 Final. With this, CSK joined Mumbai Indians (MI) as the franchise with the joint-most IPL silverware to their name.

CSK retained a core group of their players. The main strength of their squad has always been the multi-dimensional players. The team management, along with MS Dhoni, likes to work with all-rounders and thus has a deep batting lineup with an abundance of bowling options as well.

With Ben Stokes opting out of IPL 2024, CSK released the English Test skipper, who was on a massive wage of ₹16.25 crore. Ambati Rayudu, who announced his retirement last season, was also released by the franchise.

In the auction, CSK went for a mix of players which has helped them balance out their side, along with a great buy for a future perspective!

CSK Team 2024: Chennai Super Kings IPL 2024 Auction Buys

In the mini-auction, Chennai needed six slots to be filled and went in for as many players. New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell was their most expensive buy at the IPL 2024 auction, he was bought for a whopping INR 14 crore.

Apart from this, they also struck gold by purchasing Rachin Ravindra and Shardul Thakur for 1.80 Crore and 4 crore, respectively.

As Rayudu took retirement, CSK went in hard for a young middle-order batter in Sameer Rizvi. They splurged ₹8.40 crore for the attacking batter. They also sneaked in Mustafizur Rahman at his base price.

IPL 2024 Auction Rules

The 10 franchises would have to follow the following rules formulated for the IPL 2024 auction:

• Each team should spend at least 75% of their entire budget.

• Teams won't be able to use the Right to Match (RTM) card option.

• Each team can have a minimum of 18 players which can go up to no more than 25 in the squad.

• Every team needs to have at least 17 Indian players in their squad which can go up to a maximum of 25 in number.

• Each team can have a minimum of zero overseas players in their squad, which can go up to a maximum of 8 in total.

IPL 2024 Auction CSK’s Purse Value

The five-time champions freed up their purse by releasing 8 players from their 2023 squad. As a result, they had INR 31.40 crores in their purse to fill up the remaining 6 slots.

The CSK unit retained 19 players from their 2023 squad. Along with some renowned faces, the CSK franchise decided to keep the majority of their youngsters as well. Simarjeet Singh, Shaik Rasheed, Tushar Deshpande, and Rajvardhan Hangargekar all will be part of the CSK squad in 2024.
