While Pujara had already played for India in Tests, Rohit was yet to make his red-ball debut for India.

During Pujara's wife's book launch event, the former Test skipper asked him about the details of an incident that had occurred one night in Trinidad in 2012, to which Pujara responded:

"She's aware but she doesn't have the details."

However, when the host wanted the duo to expand further on the happenings of the night, Pujara said:

"I'm a vegetarian, so we were looking for a vegetarian meal at night and it was in TNT [Trinidad and Tobago] where we went out at 11 in the evening. So, we didn't find the meal but when we were walking back, I was mobbed. I can't tell you in detail about it but that's the story he's referring to."

Rohit immediately responded to Pujara's comments and said:

"Moral of the story, sometimes he can be stubborn. We told him, we warned him, don't go in the night. Don't go outside after 9pm, this is the West Indies."

Here is a video clip of the duo detailing the incident from 13 years back:

Rohit recently retired from Test cricket after a dismal run of form, averaging under 11 in his previous 10 outings. India appointed Shubman Gill as Rohit's replacement as Test captain.

"Team meetings only revolved around him" - Rohit Sharma on Cheteshwar Pujara as a batter

Rohit Sharma lauded Cheteshwar Pujara's defiance and hunger as a batter, recalling how team meetings would be around dismissing the latter during his Under-14 days. Despite being out of favor in the current Indian Test setup, Pujara has enjoyed incredible success in the whites.

The 37-year-old has scored 7,195 runs in 103 Tests at an impressive average of 43.60, including 19 centuries.

"I still remember, team meetings only revolved around him (on) how to get him out, and if we don't get him out, probably we'd lose the game. All I remember is that when I used to go to the ground, when I was 14-years-old, and when I came back in the evening, the color of my face would be completely different," said Rohit (via TOI).

He added:

"Because he used to bat all day and we used to field in the sun for (even) 2-3 days. I still remember that my mother asked me a couple of times that when you go to play from home, you look different and when you come home, after a week or 10 days, you look different. I would say, 'mom, what do I do? There's a batsman by the name of Cheteshwar Pujara. He's been batting for three days'... so that is the first impression that we had of him."

Pujara played a massive role in India's back-to-back Test series wins in Australia in 2018/19 and 2020/21, including winning the Player of the Series honors in the former.
